Abstract

A core yarn guide creel has a combined condensor 20 and thread guide 25 with the latter being constrained to be movable only in a plane containing the condensor to avoid misalignment and ensure accuracy of thread combining. The combined condensor and thread guide comprises a bar 18, preferably of plastics material, of forked configuration at one end with a stem 23 of the thread guide pivoted between the fork limbs. The condensor is mounted in the bar below the forked configuration and being in alignment with the space contained between the forked limbs. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements in or relating to creels This invention relates to creels, especially core yarn creels.
The creel according to the present invention is suitable for all normal spun materials including inter alia cotton, polyester, polyester mixtures, wool and continuous filaments such as nylon.
In core yarn creels, as is known, threads, for example cotton thread and nylon thread, are delivered from two separate sources (bobbins) to a drafting system where the threads are combined to produce the cored yarn. Accuracy in laying the two threads together is dependent upon stability in the relative positioning of the condensorthrough which the cotton thread passes to the drafting system and a thread guide through which the nylon thread passes, the two threads merging between the fluted rollers of the drafting system which are, as is known, adjustably weighted to assist thread combination.
The existing arrangement is shown in Fig. 1, a condensor being indicated at 10 and a pair of thread guides 11 supported in a frame member 12. It will be seen that the stem 13 carrying the thread guide 11 is capable of pivoting at locations 14 and 15 and, in practice, it is found that frequently the thread guide 11 is knocked out of position so weakening the accuracy of nylon and cotton thread combination.
It is an object of the present invention to obviate or mitigate this drawback.
According to the present invention we provide in or for a core yarn creel a combined condensor and thread guide with the latter being constrained to be movable only in a plane containing the condensor.
As a result misalignment cannot occur and accuracy ofthread combining to give a core yarn is ensured.
Preferably, the combined condensor and thread guide comprises a bar, preferably of plastics material, of forked configuration at one end with the stem of the thread guide pivoted between the fork limbs, the condensor being mounted in the bar below the forked configuration and being in alignment with the space contained between the forked limbs.
The bar, below the condensor, is preferably formed with two elongate slots to facilitate adjustable mounting on the drafting system.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. lisa perspective view of the known creel condensor and thread guide arrangement; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the combined condensor and thread guide; and Fig. 3 is a side view of a core yarn creel layout embodying the combined condensor and thread guide.
Referring firstly to Fig. 3 there is illustrated a known core yarn creel layout comprising a support 10 for a pair of bobbins 11 of the core thread 12, say nylon for example. The nylon thread 12 from each bobbin 11 passing around a thread guiding and tensioning arrangement 13 and thence to a thread guide (only one shown) to be described layer. After passing through the thread guide each nylon thread 12 passes through the fluted rollers 14 of the drafting system 15. The latter is, as usual, provided with a weighting device 15Afor load application.
Two other bobbins 16, one for each condensor and thread guide, containing, say cotton thread for example, are supported on the creel framework 17, the cotton thread (not shown) passing from its bobbin 16 through the condensorto be described later and through the fluted rollers 15 to be combined with the nylon thread 12 at the nip of the exit pair of rollers 14 of the drafting system 15.
According to this invention, the condensor and thread guide are combined to prevent misalignment and ensure accuracy of thread combination in the drafting system 15.
Referring now to Fig. 2, the combined condensor and thread guide comprises a bar 18 of plastics material having a forked configuration 19 atone end.
Below the configuration 19 is the condensor 20 inserted in a hole in the bar 18. The centre of the space between the limbs 21 of configuration 19 and the centre of the orifice 22 of the condensor 20 lie in the same plane. The metal stem 23 of the thread guide 24 is pivoted between limbs 21 so that the thread guide head 25 is accurately aligned with the condensor 20 and is movable only in the aforesaid plane.
The bar 18 is formed with two side-by-side parallel slots 26 to permit its adjustable mounting on the drafting system 15.
The above described combined condensor and thread guide is designed and adapted for each drafting system and gauge of creel, the latter parameter being, of course, determined by the position of the bobbin spindles along the creel. It is suitable for mass production.
1. A combined condensor and thread guide for a core yarn creel and adapted for mounting on a drafting system of the creel, the thread guide being constrained so as to be movable relative to the condensor only in a plane containing the condensor.
2. A combined condensor and thread guide as claimed in claim 1, comprising a bar of forked configuration at one end with a stem of the thread guide pivoted between the fork limbs, the condensor being mounted in the bar below the forked configuration and being in alignment with the space contained between the forked limbs.
3. A combined condensor and thread guide as claimed in claim 2 in which the bar, below the condensor, is formed with two elongate slots to facilitate adjustable mounting on the drafting system.
4. A combined condensor and thread guide for a core yarn creel, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to Figs. 2 and 3 of the accompanying drawings.
