Abstract
Magnetic transducer head assembly (30) particularly suitable for use in data transfer systems of the type using a non-rigid planar rotating magnetic recording media (22). A flexure support structure (50) operatively carries a transducer (40) for movement in a manner characterized by resilient movement in a Z axis direction and very limited rotational motion about X and Y axis coordinates orthogonally disposed to the Z axis, but which prevents other modes of movement that can give rise to data transfer errors caused by mispositioning movement of the transducer data transfer surface (40a) relative to the rotating recording media surface (22a). A plurality of flexure axis members (51b) support the transducer (40) in suspended manner for such controlled movement within a protective housing (31), with the data transfer surface (40a) of the transducer being operatively exposed. The flexure head assembly (30) is combined with both single and double-sided magnetic data transfer systems to provide improvement in both transient and steady-state operation of such systems.
