Abstract
Delineation wire (1) for the playing surface (20) of a dartboard (2) is of a cross section such as to provide a forwardly extending edge (10) which presents a minimum frontal area to a dartboard (3) for effecting deflection of the latter into the board alongside the wire (1). The wire (1) may be of triangular cross section having mutually inclined sides (11) with a flat base (12) or rounded base for resting against the playing surface (20). Alternatively the wire may be of strip or band form to provide a sharp forwardly extending edge. The wire (1) may be extruded, cast or moulded in metal or hard plastics material. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Dartboard delineation wire
This invention relates to wire as used on dart
boards in the well-known manner in defining or delineating the playing areas of the board. The object of the invention is to provide an improved form of the wire or the like whereby the tendency of a dart to bounce off the wire on striking the latter is virtually avoided or very considerably reduced.
According to the invention dartboard delineation wire or the like on orforthe playing surface of a dartboard is characterised by the cross section of the wire or similar elongate member being such as to provide a forwardly extending edge form which presents a minimum frontal area to a dart point for effecting deflection of the latter into the board alongside the wire or the like.
in practice the cross sectional form of the wire is as shown in the accompanying enlarged scale drawings.
Referring to FIGURE 1 the cross section of the wire 1 is of generally triangular form providing an apex or edge 10 extending forwardly from the playing surface 20 of the board 2 and having a flat base 12 resting against or adjacent the surface 20.
Compared with normal round section wire as hitherto used the edge 10 of the wire 1 provides minimum frontal area to the point 3 of a dart such that the dart point 3 is deflected into the board 2 alongside the wire 1. The mutually inclined sides 11 of the wire 1 assist such deflection and for this pur
pose the sides 11 can be flat (as shown) or concave.
The included angle at the apex or edge 10 may be
of the order of 60 or less to provide a sharp edge with sufficient rigidity, whilst as shown in FIGURE 2 the base 12' of the wire 1 may be rounded or otherwise suitably formed so as to bed against or into the board surface 20.
In manufacture the wire 1 is drawn or extruded through a die to the required cross section and the wire 1 may be of metal, (e.g. steel) or of hard plastic material which may be moulded. If desired the wire may be of cast metal, e.g. cast iron.
In an alternative arrangement shown in FIGURE3 the wire 1 or elongate member may be of strip or band form 100 of suitable stiffness to provide the forwardly extending edge 110 of minimum frontal area. The base of the strip 100 is shown embedded in the board surface 20 for firm location. The leading edge 110 is shown provided with a sharp edge.
1. Dartboard delineation wire orthe like on or for the playing surface of a dartboard characterised by the cross section of the wire or similar elongate
member being such as to provide a forwardly
extending edge form which presents a minimum frontal area to a dart point for effecting deflection of the latter into the board alongside the wire or the
like.
2. Dartboard delineation wire or the like according to claim 1 wherein the wire or the like is of triangular cross section providing an apex or edge which
extends forwardly from the playing surface of a dartboard and a base which lies against or adjacent the playing surface.
3. Dartboard delineation wire or the like according to claim 2 wherein themuwally inclined sides of the wire or the like of triangular cross section are flat or concave.
4. Dartboard delineation-wire or the like according to claim 2 or 3 wherein the included angle at the apex or edge of the triangular cross section of the wire or the like is of the order of 60t or less.
5. Dartboard delineation wire or the like according to claim 2, 3 or 4 wherein the base of the wire or the like af triangular cross section is flat or rounded so as to bed against or into the playing surface of a dartboard.
6. Dertboard delineation wire or the like according to claim 1 wherein the wire or similar elongate member is of strip or band form of suitable stiffness to provide the forwardly extending edge.
7. Dartboard delineation wire or the like according to claim 6 wherein the forwardly extending edge is provided with a sharp edge formation.
8. Dartboard delineation wire or the like according to claim 6 or 7 wherein the base of the strip or band form wire or elongate member is adapted to be embedded in the playing surface of a dartboard.
9. Dartboard delineation wireorthe likesubstantially as herein described with reference to FIGURE 1, 2 or 3 of the accompanying drawings.
10. Dartboard delineation wire or the like according to any of the preceding claims wherein the wire or similar elongate member is produced by extrusion or by moulding or casting in metal or hard plastic material.
11. A dartboard when provided on its playing surface with delineation wire or the like according to any of the preceding claims.
