Stapling, hand tools for.-A stapling-machine for fastening together sheets of paper to a greater thickness than possible hitherto without buckling the staple, is provided with a resilient worksupport for holding the sheets to be stitched in an elevated position, above the clinching means, so that the staple-driver inserts the legs of the staple completely through the work before they are clinched on a fixed anvil. Where a spring- mounted staple-driver is used the work-support offers greater resistance to the driver towards the clinching position than the retracting means, to ensure complete insertion of the staple legs through the work before the support moves downwards. Preferably the support is an arched apertured plate. The invention is shown embodied in a machine as described in Specification 206,932 but is applicable to all types of stapling-machines. A work support 90 of thin sheet metal is welded at one end to a base plate 2, and its free end is curled upwards at 94, so as to slide thereon. The work-support is perforated at 95, for the passage of staple legs through the work p. The staple legs are finally clinched on an anvil 70, after passing completely through the work, the support 90 then being pressed flat on top of the anvil. Full details of the machine described in Specification 206,932 are given in this Specification. The machine is made of sheet metal, comprising a base 2, and a stapling-arm 3, hinged at 6, to ears 5, on the base. The arm 3, comprises side plates 7, and a core 15 on which finished staples s are fed by a pusher 12 actuated by a coil spring 11 attached to a hub 55 supported in side plates 22 on the arm 3. The driver 30 is made of sheet metal with a sheet-metal handle 33 and runs in grooves 32 at the forward end of the arm 3. The stapling-arm is normally held raised by a spring 75.
