Abstract
A label, made of paper, has slits 3, 4 and 5 therein forming an H or an X-shape. The slits form the means of providing an aperture to receive the neck of a wine bottle. General designations, relating to the contents of the bottle, are printed on each side of the paper. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Labelling device
This invention relates to a lebelling device which is particularly useful in distinguishing bottles containing varieties of wine.
Bottles of wine may be obtained on different occasions and put into storage for subsequent use. In selecting a bottle from the store, problems can arise if it is not known, for example, which particular wine is required according to taste, to the time in which it has spent in the store, orto its origin. The present invention seeks to provide a solution to these problems.
According to the present invention, a labelling device comprises a member having means to provide an aperture for receiving the neck of a bottle, the member also providing a support for information relating to the contents of the bottle.
The information preferably includes general designations of the type, age and origin of the contents and of the period in which the contents should be used. In the case of bottles containing wine, these general designations, which can be printed on the labelling device, are preferably "Wine"; "Year"; "Origin" and "Drink Before." Spaces are provided against the general designations for the entry of information such as "1978" against the "Year." The labelling device may also include general designations such as "My Classification," "Date" and "Report." These latter designations may be printed
on the back of the labelling device and the former designations on the front.
In a preferred embodiment, the means providing the aperture to receive the neck of a bottle are slits made through the device and forming an H-shape.
The middle barofthe H communicates with the slits forming the parallel sides of the H thereby defining flaps which curl away from the plane of the device when it receives the neck of a bottle. Alternative means may be provided, such as slits forming an
X-shape, the main requirement being that the device slips easilyoverthe neckofthe bottle.
The labelling device is suitably made of paper for cheapness of manufacture and also to facilitate printing the general designations thereon and to facilitate providing the means forming the aperture (for example, slits in the paper) which receives the neck of the bottle.
An example of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing. The labelling device 1 is made of paper and has general designations 2, on the illustrated side, as shown in the drawing. Three slits 3, 4 and 5 form an H-shape and flaps 6, 7 curl away from the plane of the paper when the device is slipped over the neck of a bottle. The device 1 is substantially U-shaped to provide the "label" at one end and the curved side at the other end.
On the reverse of the device, (not illustrated) are printed the other general designations mentioned above.
1. A labelling device comprising a member having means to provide an aperture for receiving the neck of a bottle, the member also providing a support for information relating to the contents of the bottle.
2. A labelling device according to claim 1 wherein the means providing the aperture to receive the neck of a bottle are slits made through the device and forming an H-shape.
3. A labelling device according to claim 1 wherein the means providing the aperture to receive the neck of a bottle are slits made through the device and forming an X-shape.
4. A labelling device according to any one of the preceding claims and which is made of paper.
