Abstract

The device comprises a container 12 with perforated side walls 16 in which a line (not shown) is looped around a central cone 18. The end of the line is passed through a ring 20. A cover 24 protects the line from water and debris. The device is particularly suitable for use with a lifebuoy. When this is thrown, the line runs out freely via the ring. The container 12, ring 20 and cover 24 are mounted on a support 10 which can be secured to a post or rail. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A support for a flexible blade reel in textile machines This invention relates to a support for a reel in general textile machines, the combination and configuration of the parts of which confer particular characteristics of utility thereto.
As well known, the reels for general textile machines are carried by suitable supports of such a configuration as to allow the yarn unwinding in axial direction. Such conventional supports are generally provided with spring means performing the function of preventing said reel from being unthreaded for the support due to traction of said yarn being unwound.
However, such conventional spring means do not always assure the desired retaining of the reel, and it is the object of the present invention to remedy such a disadvantage.
This and further objects of the invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art from reading the following description and appended
claims.
According to the invention, a support for a reel in general textile machines is of the type comprising a base, a stem and a head, and is essentially characterized in that said head comprises a central core carried by said stem and carrying a plurality of radial blades made of flexible material, said blades performing the function of engaging the reel shuttle and retaining it due to sticking.
The invention is shown by mere way of unrestrictive example in the figures of the accompanying drawing, in which: Fig. 1 is a side view showing the support as a whole; Fig. 2 is a top view of the head only; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view showing the support of Fig. 1 with positioned reel, in this figure the resulting front blades not having been shown for the sake of clarity.
Referring to the above figures, the support generally denoted at 1 comprises a base 2 carrying a stem which can be conventionally blocked on the machine (not shown) or immediately adjacent thereto, and a head generally denoted at 4 for the blocked support of a conventional reel 5 comprising a shuttle 6 made of rigid material, having wound up thereon a yarn 7 which can be unwound in axial direction.
According to the invention, said head 4 comprises a central core 8, the latter being axially bored for adjustable sliding along said stem 3, and four series of superimposed blades 9, 91, 92, 93 and 94 made of flexible material, such as plastics material, radially arranged relative to said core 8.
As clearly shown in the figures of the accompanying drawing, the blades of each series are of gradually increasing length to the summit or apex defined by blade 92, and then of decreasing length, and this to allow said head 4 to accomodate shuttles 6 of different inner diameter and configuration.
As shown in Fig. 3, said shuttle 6 is forcibly threaded on head 4 and said blades 9, or a part thereof, are bent to said base 2 to stick on the inner surface of said shuttle 6, thus preventing the latter from being unthreaded.
Sliding of said head 4 along stem 3 enables to differently position said head in accordance with the shape and size of the shuttle, while suitable means, not shown as differently conventionally implementable, allow to block said head 4 at the desired position.
In the embodiment shown, said reel 5 is of frusto-conical type, but the support according to the invention can be used of course also for cylindrical reels, the concept of retainment by sticking being unaltered.
CLAIMS 1. A support for reel in general textile machines of the type comprising a base, a stem and a head, characterized in that said head comprises a central core carried by said stem and carrying a plurality of radial blades made of flexible material, said blades performing the function of engaging the reel shuttle and retaining the same by sticking.
2. A support for reel as claimed in Claim 1, characterized in that said blades are arranged in superimposition relationship in a plurality of series, the blades of each series being of different length.
3. A support for a flexible blade reel in textile machines, substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
