Tank wagons; vehicles with removable bodies; sides and floors.-In transporting milk or other liquids by rail a number of independently removable containers or units are provided having heatinsulating walls and each adapted to receive a liquid-carrying tank furnished with an inlet and outlet in register with ports in the container, the latter being secured to the railway vehicle by means of co-operating locking and guide members on the container and vehicle. The container is built up of a wooden framework comprising sills 12 and carlines 13, Fig. 3, which form saddle-blocks for supporting the tank 13<1>, and has double walls with an intermediate cork packing. At the lower corners of the container are arranged bevelled locking-members 7 adapted to co-operate with guide-pieces on the walls 3, Fig. 1, of the vehicle 1 to position the container against movement in the vehicle. The top of the container is provided with a removable door 20 fitting into an insulated opening 16 and giving access to the inlet 26 of the tank, which has a hinged cover 31. A second insulated door 37 on the container gives access to a housing 36, into which projects the outlet nozzle 34 of the tank, the nozzle being normally covered by a cap 33 but adapted for the ready attachment of a hose pipe. When a series of containers is mounted on the vehicle as shown in Fig. 1, each door 37 is disposed close to a side wall 3 or to an abutment thereon, thus preventing tampering with the locks 40 for these doors and the unauthorized removal of the contents of the tanks.
