Abstract

A blister pack (1) comprises a stiff backing sheet (2) having a first portion (6) and a second portion (7), a blister (3) which is attached to the front face of the first portion (6) and which has a flap (10') adjacent the second portion (7), the second portion having at least one tongue (8) which is overlapped by the flap when the backing sheet is in a flat condition. The backing sheet is foldable about a fold line (4) between the first and second portions whereby the second portion extends rearwardly of the first portion and the tongue(s) projecting forwardly thereof, the free edge of the flap engaging the tongue(s) to hold the backing sheet in a folded condition in which the second portion and the tongue(s) serve as a stand for the pack. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Blister pack Field of the invention The present invention relates to a blister pack.
Such a pack comprises a stiff backing sheet and a blister attached to the backing sheet, the blister being for containing one or more articles for transport and/or display purposes.
Background ofthe invention Known blister packs are generally intended to be displayed with the backing sheet vertical or slighly inclined to the vertical so that printed matter on the backing sheet and the packaged goods are readily visible. Generally a small hole is punched in the upper portion of the blister pack so that the blister pack can be hung from a hook. It is also known to provide bases or trays adapted to receive and hold the lower portions of the backing sheets of the blister packs to hold the backing sheets vertical or slightly inclined to the vertical.
Description ofthe invention The invention aims at providing a blister pack which can be stood, without the use of auxiliary means such as a base or tray, or a horizontal surface, such as provided by a shop counter or shelf, with the portion of the backing sheet carrying the blister vertical or slightly inclined to the vertical.
In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a blister pack comprising a stiff backing sheet having afirst portion and a second portion, a blister attached to the front face of the first portion of the backing sheet and having a flap adjacent the second portion of the backing sheet, the second portion of the backing sheet having at least one tongue, the tongue being overlapped by the flap when the backing sheet is in a non-folded condition, the backing sheet being foldable about a fold line between the first and second portions thereof to cause part of the second portion to external rearwardly away from the first portion with the tongue(s) projecting forwardly and to cause the free edge of the flap to engage the tongue(s) to hold the backing sheet in a folded condition in which the second portion of the backing sheet can serve as a base for standing the pack on a flat horizontal surface.
Preferably, in the non-folded condition of the backing sheet, the flap extends over the second portion of the backing sheet slightly beyond the fold line. Then when the backing sheet is in its folded condition the flap acts on the tongue(s) remotely from the fold line to maintain the backing sheet in its folded condition.
At least said flap of the blister is preferably semi-rigid so that it can flex during folding of the backing sheet to facilitate movement of the tongue from the position in which it is overlapped by the flap to the position in which it is engaged by the free edge of the flap.
Brief description of the drawings The invention is further described below by way of example with reference to the accompaying drawings, wherein: Figures 1 and2 are respectively front and side views of the pack, the pack being shown with its backing sheet in its non-folded condition; and Figures 3 and 4 are respectively front and side views of the pack, the pack being shown with its backing sheet in its folded condition.
Description ofpreferred embodiment Referring to the drawings, a blister pack 1 comprises a stiff cardboard backing sheet 2 and a blister 3.
The backing sheet 2 is divided by a fold line 4 (indicated by dashed lines) and cuts 5 (indicated by solid lines) into a first portion 6 and a second portion 7 (the fold line being interrupted, as shown in Figure 1, at the cuts). The first portion of the backing sheet is the part of the backing sheet above the fold line 4 and the cuts 5 and the second portion of the backing sheet is the part of the backing sheet below the fold line 4 and the cuts 5. Tongues 8 are defined by the cuts 5 and are parts of the second portion 7.
A hole 9 is punched in the upper portion 6 of the backing sheet 2 adjacent its top edge.
The blister 3 is formed from semi-rigid transparent thermoplastic material and is formed with a continuous peripheral flange 10 which is secured to the front face of the backing sheet by heat sealing or adhesive over the area indicated by shading lines in Figure 1 and 3. The lower portion of the flange 10 is wider than the other portions of the flange and includes a strip-like flap 10 not secured to the backing sheet. The flap 10 overlaps the tongues 9 and extends slightly below the fold line 4.
The pack is shown with its backing sheet 2 in a flat condition in Figures 1 and 3. In this state, the pack may be hung upon a hook by means of the hole 9. If it is desired to stand the pack upon a flat horizontal surface 11 the second portion 7 of the backing sheet is pivoted about the fold line 4 in the direction indicated by the arrow A in Figure 2.
The tongues 8 flex the flap 10' forwardly until the flap snaps over the tongues 8 as shown in the Figures 2 and 4. The second portion 7 of the backing sheet is then held at an angle to the first portion 6 and can be used as a based to stand the pack on the flat horizontal surface with the first portion of the backing sheet being disposed slightly inclined rearwardly from the vertical.
1. A blister pack comprising a stiff backing sheet having a first portion and a second portion, a blister attached to the front face of the first portion of the backing sheet and having a flap adjacent the second portion of the backing sheet, the second portion of the backing sheet having at least one tongue, the tongue being overlapped by the flap when the backing sheet is in a non-folded condition, the backing sheet being foldable about a fold line between the first and second portions thereof to cause part of the second portion to extend rearwardly away from the first portion with the tongue(s)
