Abstract

For a conveyor roller in which a roller tube is fitted to end cap assemblies incorporating bearings for rotatably mounting the roller tube on a fixed shaft, each end cap assembly comprises a housing (10), a ball bearing (11) mounted in the housing, and an end cover (12) having a central bore for reception of the shaft (46) as a close sliding fit, the housing and end cover have annular concentric tongues (27, 36, 37) which are interleaved to form an annular labyrinth passageway providing a seal between the housing and the end cover. The inner end of the labyrinth passageway is closed by an annular seal (13) compressed between the housing and the end cover. The end cover has an annular flange (39) extending as a close fit through the inner bearing ring (31) and secured therein by abutments on the flange engaging opposite sides of the inner bearing ring, while the outer bearing ring (30) tightly fits within flange (15) of housing (10), so that the end cap assembly is a self contained unit. <IMAGE>
