Abstract

A building extension comprises a plurality of pre-formed panels 2, 3 and 4, each having a rectangular framework 7, 9, 10, 11; 7A,9 A and 10A of extruded aluminium; adjacent edges of each panel 2, 3, 4, being secured together and to the wall 17 bars 12, 13, 116 as shown. The panels 2, 3, 4, on a sole plate 15 to which the link bars and terminal link bars 12, 13 and 16 are attached. A roof covering 20 is mounted on the panels 2, 3 and 4 and bars 12, 13, 116. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Building Extension Figure 4 shows a connection between adjacent edges of two contiguous panels.
In the drawings, the porch 1 can be seen to comprise a pluraiity of vertically arranged panels, all of the same height, and consisting of end panels 2 and a door panel 3 all of the same width, and the front panels 4 of half the width of the panels 2 and 3. The door panel 3 incorporates a door frame 5 and a door 6 hinged thereto, while each panel has a rectangular framework comprising a pair of spaced apart side members 7 each terminating in a vertical edge defined by a female open channel 8, the member 7 being connected together by upper and lower ties 9 and 10 respectively, and in the case of the end, and front panels 2 and 4, by an additional, intermediate tie 11.
Adjacent ends of each panel are secured together via a common, interposed link bar 12 (Figures 2 and 3) if the panels being connected incorporate a 900 bend or 13 (Figure 4) if the panels being connected are contiguous. The link bars 12, 13 incorporate spaced apart male projections 14 to engage the channels 8.
The panels 2, 3 and 4, and the link bars 12 and 13 seat on a common sole plate 1 5, of square "C"-shape in plan for the porch 1 illustrated. The sole plate 1 5 is secured e.g. by screws or bolts, on a suitable base, e.g. of concrete, while terminal link bars 1 6 are also arranged vertically and attached at their lower ends to the sole plate 1 5 and secured to the adjacent wall 17 of the building. The channels 8 of the panels 2 and 3 are provided on their insides with glazing bars 1 8 to carry glass sheets 19. Similar glazing bars are also provided along the insides of the upper, lower and intermediate ties 9, 10 and 1 As shown in Figure 3, the door 6 is also similarly provided with glazing bars 1 8A, glass sheets 1 9A and spaced side members 7A etc.
A roof covering 20 spans the area defined by the panels 2, 3 and 4, and is carried by the upper ends of these panels and by the upper ends of the link bars 12 and 13 and the terminal link bars 1 6.
The roof covering 20 incorporates a guttering 21 leading to a down spout 22 located adjacent one of the link bars 12 and obscured by an "L"section capping length 23 mounted on both the link bars 12. The guttering 21 is obscured by a fascia 24 while a rear of the roof covering is supported from a horizontal wallplate 25 secured to the wall 17. Glazing bars 26 bridge the wallplate 25 and the guttering 21. Finally, the roof covering 20 is provided with front and side fascia boards 27 and 28, respectively.
Claims
1. A building extension comprising a piurality of preformed panels, each having a rectangular framework fabricated from extruded aluminium elements, mutually adjacent vertical edges of each panel being secured together via a common, interposed link bar also of extruded aluminium, with one vertical edge of at least two of the panels being connected to terminal link bars This invention relates to a building extension, constituting e.g. a storm porch, conservatory etc., adapted to be located in part against the walls of a building.
According to the present invention, a building extension comprises a plurality of preformed panels, each having a rectangular framework fabricated from extruded aluminium elements, mutually adjacent vertical edges of each panel being secured together via a common, interposed link bar also of extruded aluminium, with one vertical edge of at least two of the panels being connected to terminal link bars adapted to be attached to the wall(s) of a building, each panel seating by their lower horizontal edges on a sole plate to which the link bars and terminal link bars are attached at lower ends thereof, with a roof covering spanning the area defined by the panels and the adjacent wall(s) of the building and carried by upper ends of the link bars and by the terminal link bars, and by upper horizontal edges of all the panels.
If the extension is in the form of a storm porch, at least one panel is a door panel incorporating a hinge mounted door. Preferably, all the panels are provided on opposite vertical edges with female open channels, engageable with complementary male projections of the link bars and the terminal link bars. It is also preferred for the horizontal upper and lower edges of each panel to be provided with similar female open channels for engagement at their lower ends with a complementary male projection on the sole plate(s), and at their upper end with an element also having a complementary male projection, of the roof covering. Preferably the sole plate(s), is also of extruded aluminium, while all the panels preferably incorporate glazing bars.
Conveniently, the roof covering incorporates a guttering leading to a down spout, the guttering being obscured by a fascia. If the building extension incorporates a 900 bend between two adjacent panels, the down spout is preferably located at this bend and is obscured by a capping length, of L-section, adapted to engage the link bar at that bend.
The roof covering preferably comprises a rectangular framework which may be spanned by glazing bars if a glazed roof is required.
The invention will now be described in greater detail, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is an exploded, perspective view of a storm porch in accordance with the present invention; Figure 2 is a sectional view, to an enlarged scale, of a connection between adjacent edges of panels defining a 900 bend and incorporating a door panel; Figure 3 corresponds to Figure 2 but shows one of the panels as a door panel, and
