The box is releasably engaged with a mounting member (49, figures 3 and 4, not shown), a key portion (53) of the member (49) being located within keyhole slots (47) in the body base (17), a self-adhesive pad (51) being provided to adhere the member (49) to a mounting surface. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Boxes The present invention relates to boxes and in particular to a box suitable for housing flat, rectangular objects, such as tape cassettes.
It is an object of the invention to provide an improved box for flat, rectangular objects, such as tape cassettes, which is readily securable on a number of different locations and can be used in a number of different orientations.
According to the present invention there is provided a box comprising a body, a lid and a catch for securing the lid in a closed condition with respect to the body, the body having a plurality of internal walls which divide the interior of the body into compartments, each of which, in use, accommodates one object, means being provided within each compartment to grip and hold an object placed therein, and means for detachably mounting the body on a surface, said mounting means comprising a member adapted to be secured to the said surface and having a portion which is releasably engageable with a mating portion on the body for releasably securing the body on the said member.
Preferably the gripping and holding means are provided by laterally extending flanges on the internal walls.
In a preferred form of the invention the mating portion on the body is a keyhole slot and the said member of the mounting means comprises a flat portion carrying a pad of self-adhesive material, a relatively small portion extending from the reverse side of the flat portion and dimensioned to be recieved throughout the keyhole slot and a relatively large portion mounted on the small portion dimensioned to be insertable through the major opening of the keyhole slot and to retain the member in the slot when at the minor opening in the slot.
The invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:~ Figure 1 is a perspective view of a box for holding cassette tapes and embodying the invention, shown with the lid open; Figure 2 is a plan view of the box with the lid removed; Figure 3 is a vertical section on the line Ill-Ill of Figure 2; Figure 4 is a vertical section on the line lV-lV of Figure 2; Figure 5 is a side elevation of the box, and Figure 6 is a side elevation of the lid of the box.
As best seen in Figure 1, the box comprises a body 11 and a hinged lid 13. The body 11 is divided internally by five vertical walls 15 into six compartments each of which can accommodate one cassette of tape. The body 11 comprises a base 17, a rear wall 19 and side walls 21, which taper from the rear to the front. A narrow flange 23 is upstanding from the base 17 at the front thereof. The lid comprises a top 25, a front wall 27 and side walls 29 which taper from the front towards their rear. At their rear the side walls 21 have depending flanges 31 by means of which the lid 13 is pivotally mounted to the upper, rear portion of the side walls 29 of the body 11.The upper, rear, portion of each of the side walls 29 is of reduced thickness to accommodate the respective flange 31 and includes an inwardly extending protrusion 33 adapted to engage in a depression 35 on the respective flange 31 to provide the necessary pivotal connection. In order to locate the lid 13 in either the closed or open positions, the upper side portions include two further small protrusions 37 which are selectively engageable with a smaller depression 39 on the flange 31.
Each of the walls 1 5 has two sets of laterally extending flanges 41, a front set 41 a and a rear set 41 b and the side walls 21 have similar inwardly directed front and rear flanges 41 a and 41 b. the front and rear flanges 41 a and 41 b of adjacent walls are in register, so as to provide a narrow gap between the side edges of the flanges to grip and hold a cassette of tape placed in that compartment. To facilitate the insertion of the cassette, each rear flange 41 b has a tapered upper portion 41 b'.
The underside of the base 17 of the body has four spaced apart downwardly extending ribs 43 to assist mounting of the box on a surface which is not absolutely flat.
In order to mount the box at a desired position a mounting clip 49 is provided which is releasably engageable with a pair of keyhole slots 47 in the base 17. The slots 47 each have a major opening 47a and a minor opening 47b for the insertion and retention of the mounting clip 49 which comprises a pair of flat portions bearing self adhesive pads 51 and a pair of key-portions 53 spaced from the flat portions by narrow portions 55. As is known, the clip 49 is engaged with the body, by inserting the keyportions 53 through the major openings 47a of the key-holes and moving the body relative to the clip to bring the keyportions 53 into the minor openings 47b.
The box described above is particularly useful for carrying cassettes in a motor car. The mounting clip 49 is secured to a convenient surface of the car interior, either horizontal or vertical, and the box is slotted on to it. Even if the box is now positioned with the base 17 uppermost, cassettes are retained inside the box when the lid is opened by means of the flanges 41. The box is readily removable from the clip if the user wishes to remove the box and the cassettes from the car.
