Abstract

A semi-trailer comprising a coupling arm 2 provided with a bolt 4 for engagement on a tractor carrying engagement means, is characterised by the provision of a locking bolt 1 which can be moved between a retracted position in the coupling arm and the position extended outside this arm and on the travel path of the engagement means of the tractor, locking means being provided in order to lock this locking bolt at least in the extended position. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A semi-trailer The invention relates to a semi-trailer.
Semi-trailers are already known in which the coupling arm is provided with a bolt, called a "working bolt" which is designed to co-operate with the additional engagement means provided on the small base plate of a traction engine or other towing vehicle.
In order to avoid the theft of these semi-trailers it is already known to put detachable half or semi-chucks into operation so that they arrange themselves around the bolt in order to prevent the Small base plate of the traction engine or other towing vehicle being driven in and thus prevent the semi-trailer from being engaged by means of this bolt.
However, with this device and if a traction engine tries to be coupled to the bolt provided with these two semi-chucks, the guide edges of the small base plate start to run against the half chucks and this causes it to deteriorate and may block it in a locked position on the bolt.
Moreover, inserting and removing the half chucks on the bolt are dirty operations given that the bolt is always covered in grease.
The present invention aims in particular to remedy these disadvantages and is concerned to this end with a semi-trailer comprising a coupling arm provided with an engaging bolt of the se-mi-traileron a traction engine or other towing vehicle carrying the additional coupling means, a semi-trailer characterised in that the coupling arm comprises a movable locking bolt, near to the bolt and on the path covered by the engaging means of the traction engine, between a position retracted in the coupling arm and a position outside the said arm, a locking means being provided for the purpose of blocking this locking bolt at least in the position outside the arm.
In accordance with another feature of the invention the bolt is movable by sliding it in a fixed bushing inside the coupling arm.
In accordance with another feature of the invention the locking means is made up of a lock housed entirely inside the locking bolt.
The invention is shown by way of non-limitative example in the attached drawings, in which: Figure 1 shows a view in axial section of the front end of a semi-trailer; Figure 2 shows a sectional view ofthe anti-theft device fixed to the coupling arm.
Consequently the present invention aims to implement a semi-trailer provided with an anti-theft device such that it prevents the semkrniler from being coupled behind a traction engine (or other appropriate towing vehicle), when the anti-theft device is in its extended locked position.
In accordance with the invention this anti-theft device comprises a locking bolt 1, fixed to the coupling arm 2 of a trailer 3 and close to the working bolt 4 which projects beyond the lower face of this coupling arm 2 so as to preventthe additional coupling means provided on a traction engine from being able to reach this working bolt and be coupled to it.
In Figure 1 a trailer 3 has been shown which is in addition provided with support wheels and with a leg 5 which can be retracted and is provided at its lower end with a roller 6.
The working bolt 4 is fixed by soldering or welding between the profiles forming the coupling arm and the lower face 41 of this bolt is provided with annular grooves or rebates which have to engage on the locking device of the traction engine.
Close to the bolt 4 and towards the front of the coupling arm 2 the locking bolt 1 is provided, the diameter of this locking bolt preferably being greater than that of the active part of the working bolt 4 so that the guide slot of the base plate of the traction engine cannot frame the locking bolt 1. Instead of placing the locking bolt 1 in front of the bolt 4, it will be possible however to arrange it laterally, the bolt and the locking bolt acting simultaneously in this case to prevent the traction engine from moving back and preventing the Small base plate from being arranged vertically of the bolt 4.
The locking bolt 1 comprises a bushing 7 fixed by soldering at 7, inside the coupling arm 2, the said bushing 7 accommodating the locking bolt 8 itself by sliding, the said locking bolt 8 being able to occupy either a position which is entirely retracted inside the coupling arm (see the solid line representation) or on the contrary an extended position (see the broken line representation), the locking means being provided in order to block the locking bolt at least in the extended position.
The locking bolt slides over it with a slight play in the bushing and a longitudinal groove 9 is provided over the entire length of this locking bolt so as to allow air to escape when the locking bolt is displaced in the bushing.
Similarly, this locking bolt 8 is provided with a groove 10 in which a finger 11 is housed, the said finger projecting beyond the internal face of the bushing 7 and comprising for example a point screw screwed in an orifice completely passing through the thickness of the bushing 7.
Similarly, inside this groove 10 an orifice 12 is provided at the end of which a screw 13 connected moreover by the cylinder 14 of a lock of the "piston lock" type which can be controlled by a security key, is housed.
This screw 13 serves to position this drum inside the locking bolt 8, the drum being off-centre on the locking bolt, as can be seen in Figure 2, so that the stop 15 is able to be housed in one of the two recesses 16 and 17 provided in the inner wall of the bushing 7 while crossing an opening 8, in the locking bolt.
These housings 16 and 17 are positioned so that the stop 15 is arranged opposite these housings 16 and 17 when the finger 11 is applied to the ends of the groove 10.
This groove 10 and its finger 11 thus form the means of retaining the locking bolt 8 in the bushing 7 and the means of positioning this locking bolt in the end positions for which the cylinder 14 can be acted upon with the aid of a key in order to house the stop 15 in the orifices 16 or 17 so asto block this locking bolt respectively in a retracted position or in an extended position.
The locking bolt 15 is preferably made of steel and has a thickness so that it cannot be sheared if an attempt is made to force the anti-locking device by driving in the locking place 8 even though the stop 15 has been introduced and locked by the cylinder 14 in the housing 17.
The device of the invention thus constitutes an anti-theft device having great security which is separated from the working bolt, but nevertheless prevents this bolt from access to the additional locking devices of a traction engine.
This device is very robust and ensures that the cylinder of the lock is protected while also allowing this cylinder to be changed after extraction of the locking bolt out of the bushing 7.
