Abstract

A metal ring 1 connects an aerosol container 8 to a disc wall 3, carrying an operating push button 5 and an outlet tube 4, by means of a tear-off guarantee seal 6 having free tear-ends 7. The construction is robust, and fraudulent opening can easily be seen. The disc wall 3 remains connected to the ring 1 by a tongue 2 which is flexed on dispensing. <IMAGE>

SPECIFICATION Dispensers for aerosol containers
DESCRIPTION The invention relates to dispensers for aerosol containers, and is particulariy concerned with guarantee seals thereon for preventing any fraudulent dispensing of the contents.
A dispenser according to the invention comprises a ring for connecting to the container and a guarantee seal comprising a tear tongue having projections for gripping by a user's fingers and extending along part of the periphery of the ring. Such a guarantee seal can be made strong so that it cannot be unintentionally broken, can readily be assembled, and rupture can immediately and easily be detected. The dispenser and container to which it is connected may be made easy to manufacture, of low production cost and reliable in use.
DRAWINGS Figure 1 is a perspective view of a dispenser according to the invention mounted on an aerosol container; Figure 2 is similar to Figure 1 but shows the dispenser as the guarantee seal is being torn off; and Figure 3 is an axial section of the dispenser of Figures 1 and 2.
The dispenser shown in the drawings comprises a metal ring or outer skirt 1 seamed to a turned over edge 10 (Figure 3) of the bottom of a valve mounted on an aerosol container 8. The dispenser also comprises a disc wall 3, on the lower face of which a seat is formed to receive the stem 11 (Figure 3) of an aerosol valve, and having a shaped tube 4 and an actuating button 5 projecting from its upper face. The wall 3 is separated from the ring 1 by a channel 12, and is connected to the ring 1 by a flexible tongue 2 and a tear tongue 6, the free ends 7 of which are raised and can be easily gripped by a user's fingers. The tongue 6 fits in the channel 12 and almost surrounds the disc 3.
The tongue 6 is initially connected to the ring 1 and disc 3 by preferential rupture lines where the thickness of the material comprising the dispenser is less than that at the ring 1 and disc 3. However, owing to its length, the tongue 6 provides a firm safe anchor for the disc 3 to the ring 1. so that prior to rupture of the guarantee seal the dispenser assembly is very sturdy, such that it can easily be mounted on aerosol valves without risk of unintentionally breaking the guarantee seal even using automatic machinery.
To break the guarantee seal, a projecting end 7 of the tongue 6 is gripped by the user's fingers (Figure 2), and a pull is exerted so as to tear away the tongue. The wall 3, tube 4 and push button 5 remain attached to the ring 1 only at the flexible tongue 2, and can be oscillated to dispense the substance stored in the container 8.
The channel 1 2 is of comparatively large width between the ring 1 and the wall 3. This facilitates dispenser operation, as the wall 3 cannot interfere with the ring 1. The absence of the sealing tongue 6 can readily be detected by sight, and so fraudulent opening of the dispenser is impossible.
The dispenser shown is particularly suitable for foamy products, especially of an alimentary nature.
CLAIMS 1. A dispenser for an aerosol container comprising a ring for connecting to the container and a guarantee seal comprising a tear tongue having projections for gripping by a user's fingers and extending along part of the periphery of the ring.
2. A dispenser according to claim 1 including a tongue connected to the ring and flexible by a user's finger on operation of the dispenser.
3. A dispenser for an aerosol container as herein described with reference to the drawings.

Claims (3)

SPECIFICATION Dispensers for aerosol containers DESCRIPTION The invention relates to dispensers for aerosol containers, and is particulariy concerned with guarantee seals thereon for preventing any fraudulent dispensing of the contents. A dispenser according to the invention comprises a ring for connecting to the container and a guarantee seal comprising a tear tongue having projections for gripping by a user's fingers and extending along part of the periphery of the ring. Such a guarantee seal can be made strong so that it cannot be unintentionally broken, can readily be assembled, and rupture can immediately and easily be detected. The dispenser and container to which it is connected may be made easy to manufacture, of low production cost and reliable in use. DRAWINGS Figure 1 is a perspective view of a dispenser according to the invention mounted on an aerosol container; Figure 2 is similar to Figure 1 but shows the dispenser as the guarantee seal is being torn off; and Figure 3 is an axial section of the dispenser of Figures 1 and 2. The dispenser shown in the drawings comprises a metal ring or outer skirt 1 seamed to a turned over edge 10 (Figure 3) of the bottom of a valve mounted on an aerosol container 8. The dispenser also comprises a disc wall 3, on the lower face of which a seat is formed to receive the stem 11 (Figure 3) of an aerosol valve, and having a shaped tube 4 and an actuating button 5 projecting from its upper face. The wall 3 is separated from the ring 1 by a channel 12, and is connected to the ring 1 by a flexible tongue 2 and a tear tongue 6, the free ends 7 of which are raised and can be easily gripped by a user's fingers. The tongue 6 fits in the channel 12 and almost surrounds the disc 3. The tongue 6 is initially connected to the ring 1 and disc 3 by preferential rupture lines where the thickness of the material comprising the dispenser is less than that at the ring 1 and disc 3. However, owing to its length, the tongue 6 provides a firm safe anchor for the disc 3 to the ring 1. so that prior to rupture of the guarantee seal the dispenser assembly is very sturdy, such that it can easily be mounted on aerosol valves without risk of unintentionally breaking the guarantee seal even using automatic machinery. To break the guarantee seal, a projecting end 7 of the tongue 6 is gripped by the user's fingers (Figure 2), and a pull is exerted so as to tear away the tongue. The wall 3, tube 4 and push button 5 remain attached to the ring 1 only at the flexible tongue 2, and can be oscillated to dispense the substance stored in the container 8. The channel 1 2 is of comparatively large width between the ring 1 and the wall 3. This facilitates dispenser operation, as the wall 3 cannot interfere with the ring 1. The absence of the sealing tongue 6 can readily be detected by sight, and so fraudulent opening of the dispenser is impossible. 1. A dispenser for an aerosol container comprising a ring for connecting to the container and a guarantee seal comprising a tear tongue having projections for gripping by a user's fingers and extending along part of the periphery of the ring.
2. A dispenser according to claim 1 including a tongue connected to the ring and flexible by a user's finger on operation of the dispenser.
