Abstract
A dental gold alloy comprises (by weight) 35 to 55% gold, 5 to 10% indium, 0.1 to 0.5% ruthenium, 0 to 1% gallium, the remainder being palladium.
Description
SPECIFICATION
Dental Gold Composition
This invention relates to a dental gold composition. In particular, the invention relates to a
lightweight porcelain-bonding dental alloy.
According to the invention a dental gold composition comprises by weight of 35 to 55% gold, 5
to 10% indium, 0.1 to 0.5% ruthenium, between 0 to 1% gallium and the rest being palladium.
One embodiment of the invention is given, by way of example, in the following table:
Example
Composition Physical Properties Gold51.4% Hardness: 235 DPN Indium9.4% Ultimate Tensile Strength: 59 kgm/mm2
Ruthenium--0.1% Yield strength: 50 kgm/mm2 Gallium0.6% Elongation: 20% Palladium-38.5% Density: 14.0 gm/cc
The alloy described in the above example has a high strength and is suitable for long span bridgework. It is readily cast into multiple unit bridges. There is no discolouration of porcelain and virtually no distortion during firing procedures. The alloy is also compatible with all commonly used porcelain powders.
Claims
1. A dental gold alloy comprising by weight of 35 to 55% gold, 5 to 10% indium, 0.1 to 0.5% ruthenium, between 0 to 1% gallium and the rest being palladium.
2. A dental gold alloy according to claim 1 comprising by weight of 51.4% gold, 9.4% indium, 0. 1% ruthenium, 0.6% gallium and 38.5% palladium.
3. Any novel feature or novel combination of features disclosed herein.
