Abstract

204,690. Junkers, H. Sept. 28, 1922, [Convention date]. Floats, arrangement of; shockabsorb, ers, applications of.-Each float of a seaplane is connected at two fore-and-aft points to the fuselage or wing of the machine or to both, and the front point has a spring connection arranged beneath the centre of gravity of the main masses of the machine. Means for preventing lateral movement of the float are provided. Figs. 2 and 3 show respectively the forward and rear connections of two floats 1 to the machine. Spring struts 21, 22 connect points 2, 3 on the floats to points 10, 11 on the wing and fuselage respectively. Lateral movement of the floats is prevented bv links 18 connected to the apex of struts 19. A similar but rigid linkage connects the points 4, 5 of the floats to the plane and fuselage. Longitudinal movement is prevented by links connecting the points 10, 11 to the points 4, 5. Fig. 7 shows a modification in which a pair of struts 33, pivoted to the fuselage are connected to a transverse rod 36 passed though lugs on the floats, forward points 32 on the floats being connected to the wing 50 by links 30 having shock absorbers 31. Links 40, 42. respectively prevent longitudinal and lateral movement. The shock absorbers may be arranged within the floats to reduce head resistance. To provide a free space between the floats the lateral connections shown may be replaced by links extending from the outside of each float to the wings or to brackets. thereon.
