Abstract
A boat hull comprises a plurality of disconnectable sections which with the attachment of an undercarriage and tow bar may be used as caravans. The sections may be drawn together to form the hull by use of a winch and cable.
Description
SPECIFICATION
Converti-boat
Construction Detail and Operation
Design based on conventional canal narrow boat, but could be developed to include other types of boat. Construction material could be any suitable boat building material.
The boat is built in separate sections incorporating the following features:
(a) strong main side frames and end frames.
(b) Cable (joining) run brackets with inserts or pulleys.
(c) Location for section joining bolts or pins.
(d) Section access doors either above waterline or below waterline with watertight seals.
(e) Stern section with main power unit and capstan or winch.
(f) Separate drawbar attachment fitting any section or to be used as part of road trailer.
(g) Two road wheels on stub axles fits all sections.
(h) With addition of extra section drawbar converts to road trailer.
Transport by Road
1. Drawbar attached to section end.
2. Jack up front of section until road wheels can fit in place.
3. Connect brake cables, (drive away).
Section Joining
(a) Position stern section next to section to be added on rollers if on land or afloat.
(b) Thread joining cables as indicated in Fig. 1.
(c) Position capstan/winch pulley indicated in
Fig. 1.
(d) Operate capstan/winch pulling section together.
(e) Locate joining bolts by inserting tapered rod hrough locating holes in cable run brackets.
(f) joining bolts are tightened.
(g) joining cables are removed or transferred to next section.
Section Separation
(a) Attach bow and capstan rope to anchor or post.
(b) insert tapered rod.
(c) Remove section joining bolts or pins.
(d) Disconnect service cables and pipes.
(e) Operate winch pulling sections apart.
Variations
1. Other mechanical, hydraulic or electro hydraulic means could be used to join and separate sections, e.g. hydraulic rams.
2. An independent trailer could be used to transport sections.
3. Instead of rollers to facilitate positioning sections, integral wheels or rollers could be fitted to each section.
4. A complete craft could be made up of lateral and vertical section on other type boats.
Unique Feature
1. Boat can be built in separate sections at remote locations.
2. Sections can be joined and separated at will either on land or afloat for either extension of craft or maintenance etc.
3. Individual boat sections can be towed by average car.
4. Drawbar with road wheels fitted can be converted to road trailer.
5. Any centre section can be used as a conventional road caravan.
6. Although the equipment has been designed to operate as a caravan this design is unique in that no single section can be considered a complete boat which differs from current convertible caravan/boat currently on the market, in fact only centre sections are practical for caravan use.
Claims
1. I claim this patent to cover all boats, built as complete hull sections, all having at least one joining bulkhead, so constructed, as to allow any two sections to be joined either afloat or on land, in the manner indicated in the description and plans supplied Any two or more sections forming a complete boat.
2. 1 claim this patent also covers any boat built in sections, having provision for attachment of undercarriage and tow-bar, ailowing sections to be towed on the road, by a suitable vehicle, being an important feature of the whole concept.
3. 1 also claim this patent to cover any boat built in sections any one section, with the addition of a undercarriage and tow-bar being capable of use as a towable caravan.
Schedule of Reference Numerals in the
Drawings
1. Strong side beams hollow box.
2. End frames of each section strengthened to
take attachment loads.
3. Joining cable run brackets, brackets could
have holes, pulleys or rollers for rope
carriage.
4. Joining bolts.
5. Section access doors all doors between
sections above water line (could be below if
joined on land and seals used.
6. Winch.
7. Wheel attachment point.
8. Tow-bar attached to boat section by normal
joining bolts.
9. Box section attaches to draw bar section
with wheels attached can be used as a
trailer.
10. Road wheel.
11. Section access door.
12. Joining cable.
13. Winch cable.
14. Pulley block.
