Abstract

In vehicle gritting apparatus sand is fed by gravity from a plastics container 1 to each driving wheel under the control of a drivers switch 6 and foot button 7. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Self gritting vehicle The object of this invention is to stop (as far as possible) motor vehicles skidding on ice or snow. It consists of a plastic container to hold the purpose dried grit or graded gravel. In the case of the motor car the container is placed behind the rear seats in the car boot. There is a feed pipe under each end which allows the grit to drop immediately in front of the tread of both driving wheels, this is controlled by a single switch on the dashboard, so that the driving wheels are fed together, there is also a air-pump attached to the feed and controlled by a single foot button which gives an extra boost of grit when stuck in snow or on a road covered in ice. There would be considerable savings if my invention was adopted.
The grit used would be properly graded and washed clean and purpose dried, therefore would be more suitable for gripping the road surface than the unwashed grit now in use and most important it would drop exactly where and when it was wanted.
There would be no need to grit any roadways or highways because each vehicle would do their own gritting, there should also be considerable saving on insurance, because it would stop vehicles skidding into each other in icy weather. It should be also be very useful to drivers of vehicles with tractors, as he would be able to give a boost of grit under each driving wheel immediately it started to jack-knife.
This invention relates to the prevention of motor vehicles skidding on ice or snow. It consists of a plastic container to hold purpose dried clean sharp sand, and designed to empty itself entirely by gravity and to send the sand through the feed pipes simultaneously in front of each driving wheel, and controlled by a switch and press button by the driver.
I claim that my invention will prevent skidding on ice, and to be able to move when stuck in snow by the driver putting on the control switch and foot button. I also claim that my invention will prevent jack-knifing by vehicles with trailors, because by pressing the foot button, the driver can give extra boosts of sand under each wheel at a seconds notice.
