Abstract

A toy comprises a hollow body (11) in the form of a creature's body surmounted by a liquid-receptacle (18) in the form of the creature's head. The receptacle is in restricted communication with the body whereby liquid falls in drop form into the body and impinges on the interior ends of limbs, the feet, wings and lower beak, which extend from the interior of the body through respective openings in the body and have outer ends representing the creature's limbs. The limbs pivot about the openings and as liquid falls on the interior ends rock up and down to simulate movement of the creature's limbs. The fallen liquid can drain from the body. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Toy The present invention relates to toys.
According to the present invention there is provided a toy comprising a hollow body having one or more limbs mounted thereon and extending into its interior through an opening individual to that limb which provides a pivot about which the limb may be rocked, and a liquid-receptacle mounted on the top of the body, means providing restricted communication between the receptacle and the body whereby liquid may fall from the receptacle in drop form into the body and impinge on the interior end of the or each limb to move that limb about its pivot and means for permitting fallen liquid to drain from the body.
Preferably, the receptacle communicates with the body by means of an apertured bottom wall of the receptacle.
In an alternative form of the invention the limb is mounted for rotation within the opening in the body and has a flange extending therefrom into the body to provide the said interior end of the limb.
The invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a perspective view from the front of a toy embodying the invention; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the toy from the rear; Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the centre phase of the toy, and Fig. 4 is a section on the line IV - IV of Fig. 3.
The toy shown in the drawings comprises a hollow body 11, has a front wall 12, a rear wall 13, left and right side walls 14 and a bottom 15. The bottom 15 has a well portion 16 and the rear wall 13 has an outwardly extending portion 17. The upper end of the body 11 is closed by a tank 18 that has an open top and an apertured bottom 19 that gives access, via its apertures, to the interior of the body 11.
As will be seen from Fig. 1, the toy, in this embodiment of the invention, simulates a duck and the front surface of the tank 18 is decorated with eyes and has, extending from a lower central position, an upper part 21 of a beak which is fixedly mounted to the tank 18.
Five moveable limbs 22, 23 and 24 extend from the body 11 simulating the two feet 22, the two wings 23 and a lower moveable beak part 24. Each limb comprises a two-arm lever normally balanced on and rockable about a pivot provided by a slot in that wall of the body 11 through which the limb extends. The exterior arm of the lever simulates the foot, wing or beak, while the interior arm is disposed within the body 11 for a purpose described below. As seen from Figs. 3 and 4, the limbs 23 and 24 are each bent near their centre at about ninety degrees and are arranged so that a major part of both the interior and the exterior arms extend downwardly. At their interior ends the limbs 23 and 24 have further portions 23a and 24a that extend upwardly at right angles to the respective interior arm.The limbs 22 are almost straight but have a slight deviation from 180 near their centre.
The bottom 15 of the body 11 has a plurality of holes 26 and further holes 26 are provided in the lower part of the rear wall 13.
A suction cup 25 is mounted on the rear wall 13 to enable the toy to be mounted on a surface, e.g. the side of a bath.
In use, the tank 18 is filled with water that moves through the apertures in the bottom 19 of the tank 18 to fall as drops into the interior of the body 11. The drops impinge on the interior arms of the limbs 22, 23 and 24, causing them to rock about their respective pivots in a fairly random manner, since the water does not drop regularly through the different apertures in the bottom 19. The water drains from the toy through the holes 26.
In an alternative form of the invention, not shown in the drawings, the limb represents, for example, an eye and is rotatably mounted within an opening in the wall of the body whereby the eye is visible in the opening when the toy is viewed. A flange connected to the eye extends inwardly into the interior of the body to provide an interior end of the limb on which the drops of liquid from the receptacle may impinge, rocking the limb and causing, for example, the eye to appear to open and close.
