Abstract
An arrangement for storing and displaying posters in sequence has two endless spaced parallel chains (24, 25) driven synchronously so that support pins (29) on the chains engage both ends of a poster holding bracket (33) and carry the poster through a display zone where the posters are exposed vertically hanging for a period which depends on the motor speed. The poster is then returned to a store portion where the pins automatically disengage from the poster holding bracket, and is automatically fed to the engaging position again. The posters may also be displayed, in a stationary mode, in the store portion. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Arrangement for storing posters and for displaying the posters in sequence
The present invention relates to an arrangement for storing posters and for displaying the posters in sequence. Such posters may contain text and/or pictures for information, advertising and/or educational purposes.
Arrangements are known for displaying flexible posters which are rolled up on a rotating drum such that as the drum rotates the posters are unrolled and periodically displayed.
The disadvantage of most known arrangements such as this is that only flexible posters can be used.
The exposure time of each poster also tends to be short.
According to the present invention there is provided an arrangement for storing flexible and inflexible posters and for displaying the posters in sequence, the arrangement comprising storage means for storing said posters and a pair of spaced-apart, endless, flexible conveyor elements carrying support members arranged to form one or more co-operating pairs adapted for engaging a poster, when the elements are in motion, to convey the poster from an engagement region of the storage means and through a display zone, said storage means comprising a pair of members providing ramps along which posters slide so as to feed one-by-one to the engagement region.
An arrangement according to the present invention can be constructed so as to be simple to
manufacture and to require very little maintenance.
It can be used to display flexible and/or inflexible
posters and changing posters is much easier than it is with most known arrangements.
For a better understanding of the present invention and to show how the same may be carried into effect reference will now be made to the accompany
ing drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an arrangement according to the present invention;
Figure 2 is a side view with one end wall removed of the arrangement of Figure 1;
Figure 3 shows an embodiment of a holder for a
poster;
Figure 4 is a section along line IV - IV in Figure 3.
Figure 1 shows the arrangement comprising a
casing 10 which has gables or end walls 11 and 12
and an upper part 13. The front side of the casing 10
has a transparent window 14 made of, for example,
glass or a plastics material. The lower part of the
casing 10 carries an electric motor 17. The motor
shaft of the motor 17 is provided with a first gear ring
18. A second gear ring 19 is arranged on an axle rod
20 extending substantially over the width of the
casing 10. At each end of the axle rod 20 is a cog
wheel 21 and 22 respectively. In the upper part of the
casing 10 are similar cog wheels, situated in the
same vertical plane as the cog wheels 21 and 22. In
the drawing only one such upper cog wheel 23 is
shown.An endless chain 25 connects cog wheels 21
and 23 and in a similar manner lower cog wheel 22 is connected to the upper cog wheel which is not shown, by means of an endless chain 24. The motor 17 thus will drive chains 24 and 25 synchronously.
Opposite sides of the casing 10 are provided with identical guide means in the form of a wall 26. The wall 26 is so shaped that it leaves a free space which is indicated by reference 27 in Figure 1. The wall 26 extends in a vertical direction substantially to the middle of the casing 10. The lower part of this free space 27 is delimited by a downwardly inclined member 28 which separates a display portion of the arrangement - the upper half, from a store portion the lower half. Member 28 serves as a storage means for posters in the store portion, as means for automatically feeding posters to a position ready for transfer to the.display portion and also as means for transferring a poster from a mobile display mode to a immobile display mode, as will be described hereafter.
The endless chains 24 and 25 are each provided with a number of support members in the form of pins 29 or the like. These pins 29 are arranged to co-operate pivotally with end parts of holding means 33 for a poster 31. Such a holding means 33 is shown in Figure 3 and may comprise a rigid elongated body having resilient lips which are able to hold a poster by friction. The ends of this holding means 33 have recesses 32 which serve as means to co-operate with the pins 29 and also serve as guide means for co-operation with the upper edge, or ramp, of the inclined members 28.
When loading the arrangement with posters a number of brackets or holding means 33, each carrying a vertically hanging poster (Figure 2) are arranged to rest on the upper inclined edge, or ramp, of the inclined member 28. The first poster, as shown in Figure 2, due to the inclination of members 28, takes up a starting position. The motor 17 is connected to the lighting network and the chains 24 and 25 start to rotate synchronously at a predetermined speed, which is dependent on the predetermined time required for the display of each poster.
As the chains 24 and 25 rotate a pin 29 on each chain 24 and 25 will engage respective recesses 32 of a holding means 33 resting in the starting position on the ramp surface of the inclined members 28, and will lift that holding means with its associated poster. The poster is carried through the upper part of the inner space of the arrangement along a distance which is denoted in the drawing by the letter C. The time taken for the poster to travel this distance C constitutes, in this embodiment, approximately one third of the total display time for that poster. The poster is then carried around the upper cog wheels and is lowered through distance C1 to the point where the inclined members 28 cause disengagement between pins 29 and the poster holding bracket means 33.
Preferably the pins 29 of chains 24 and 25 are so arranged along the chains that a second poster bracket holding means is engaged by two pins at that moment when the first poster reaches the point where the inclined members 28 cause disengagement between pins 29 and the first poster bracket holding means.
In this way the arrangement enables a hanging poster to be displayed while it moves over a first distance C and a second distance C1 and to be displayed while stationary in the portion labelled C2 in Figure 1.
A source of light, for example a lamp 35 may be arranged as indicated in Figure 2 to illuminate posters being displayed.
