Abstract

A roller for styling and permanently styling hair, consists in a straight body 1 of any, but preferably circular section, provided also with two terminals 2, 3 at the ends thereof. The terminal 2 is shaped like a sleeve and the other terminal 3 is shaped as a pin, to form a tongue-and-groove closing joint for the roller in a ring-like manner after a lock of hair has been wound in side-by-side curls along the body of the roller. This avoids points of the curls being burned by the action of setting lotions on the overlain hair, as well as non-uniformity in the folding of the curls. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A roller for styling or permanently styling hair The present invention concerns a roller for styling or permanently styling hair.
In rollers for styling and permanently styling hair it is necessary, most of all in the case of long hair, that the hair do not burn due to the action of the liquid used for permanently styling, and that the curls which are gradually formed when the lock is wound around the roller show, at the end of the operation, a uniform curling and that those curls do not show any sign of said operation, e.g. due to the elastic used to fix the wound hair lock. Finally it is necessary that the winding of the lock may be performed easily and quickly.
The conventional rollers known until now consist in a rigid body, showing at the outer part thereof distanced teeth groups, placed in the longitudinal sense of said body. Atone of the ends of the roller an annular groove is realized in which the end of a usual elastic is fixed, the same being fixed at the other end in an already well known way and having the function of fixing the hair lock wound around the roller.
It is evident that in such conditions the hair lock is wound around the roller, starting from the point, as to form overlying curls (turns). Therefore, the first curl (turn) will be straighter, i.e. more curled, while the following curls will be always less curled, while gradually nearing to the last one, which is nearly toe hair roots. So, when the operation is completed, the result is a practical and esthetic non-uniformity, as well as the burning of the curls, mainly at the point thereof, due to the overlying of the curls. In fact, the point of the lock is more sensible to the action of the setting lotion, being the growing zone of the hair; moreover, in consideration of the fact that the curls are overlying, that part of the curled lock will become the part where most of the setting lotion for permanently setting hair is accumulated. Thus the point of the lock suffer--by using a conventional rollers double negative effect during said operation.
To eliminate said inconveniences a new kind of roller of circular shape has recently been proposed, showing an aperture for the passage and the winding of the lock. The particular shape of the roller should allow a side-by-side winding of the lock, i.e.
the curls should be wound side-by-side and should not be overlain. This kind of roller shows different inconveniences. In fact, with that kind of roller the lock can be wound only starting from the root; in this case it is difficult to wind the lock along the surface of the ring, due to the shape thereof, because the lock must be combed or brushed every time before performing a new turn. Consequently, said operation takes away too much time and, nonetheless, no satisfying results are achieved. On the contrary, it is not possible to wind the lock from the other side, i.e. starting from the point, still due to the shape of the roller if not by overlying the curls. In this case the inconveniences caused by the conventional kind of roller as above said are not avoided, but a waste of time is added. And, in both cases, the fixing of the lock at the end of the curling operation still remains a problem.
It has also recently been proposed to realize a roller in the form of a straight, flexible body, preferably of circular section, and a spring steel wire passing along the central axis thereof showing, at one end of said body, a locking hook and, at the other end, an eyelet to realize the locking with the hook, at a 900 plane with the plane of said hook. This kind of roller eliminates above said inconveniences, but shows other inconveniences.
First of all, as the practice has shown, this kind of roller brings along many technical difficulties in the production thereof, the same requesting a simultaneous manufacturing of the rubber, forming the body thereof, together with the spring steel forming the heart thereof, thus making the article become very expensive. Secondly, as it has also been shown in the practice, the contact of the ends of the steel heart, said ends forming the ring locking system of the roller, with the setting lotion for permanently styling hair, alters the roller and even changes the colourthereof.
It is therefore task of the present invention to realize a roller for permanently styling hair which eliminates the inconveniences of the conventional rollers, and which guarantees that the curls, and particularly the point of the wound lock, will not suffer burnings, result uniform in the folding thereof, do not show any sign of the locking operation of the lock on the roller; moreover, said roller may not alter in any way the setting lotion and must be of such a configuration as to be realized as cheap as possible. Finally, said roller must allow the winding operation to be performed easily and quickly, with a consequent increase of practicity and a lower waste of time.
According to the present invention, a roller is realized on which the lock is wound in side-by-side placed curls-instead of overlain curls-said roller consisting in a straight, flexible body, preferably with a circular section, out of rubber or any synthetic material, provided that it is of such a flexibility to allow a repeated ring-closing and the recovery into the straight position, said roller showing at the ends thereof two terminals out of hard, synthetic material, realized as a tongue-and-groove jointforthe ringclosing of the roller after the winding of the lock.
According to the present invention, the roller for styling and permanently styling hair is realized as a straight body provided with a section which, in principle may be any, but preferably circular, said body being also out of any flexible material, preferably rubber, polyethylene or similar, provided that it is of such a flexibility to allow the repeated, nearlycircu- lar ring-closing and the recovery to the straight position thereof, when the side-by-side winding of the lock has been performed. The bending of the roller to form a ring will allow to exploit a bigger surface when applying for the other rollers which are needed for the complete styling or permanently styling operation.
As to stop the roller in the close, nearly circular ring position thereof, one end thereof is provided with a terminal shaped as a sleeve with a cylindrical section, or a section of any other shape, out of hard synthetic material, innerly being hollow. Said sleeve receives, in the form of a tongue-and-groove joint, another terminal, applied to the other end of the roller, also realized out of hard, synthetic material, shaped as a pin of circular or any section, but in any case of such a diameter as to be inserted, under a slight pressure, within said sleeve.
The section of the body of the roller for styling and for permanently styling according to the present invention may be of any shape, but preferably within 8-15 mm; also the length thereof can be any, but preferably within 6-10 cm.
The advantages achieved by the use of this kind of roller for styling and permanently styling according to the present invention are therefore evident and correspond to the premises of the present invention.
In fact, said roller allows, due to the configuration and to the features thereof, to obtain a side-by-side curling of lock; it eliminates the burning of the curls, particularly of the points, guarantees a uniform folding which does not show any sign of the locking of the lock onto said roller; any alteration or deterioration of the setting lotion is out of question. The roller is easy and not expensive in the realization, and finally it allows an easy winding of the lock and a consequent increase in practicity and a lower waste of time.
Referring nowtothe enclosed drawing, a preferred embodiment of the present invention is shown, together with a variant of the same. The figures show: figure 1, a front view of the roller for styling and permanently styling according to the present invention, in close position; figure 2, a front view of the roller of figure 1, in the straight position, showing the section of the closing terminals.
In the enclosed drawing, 1 shows the straight body of the roller for styling and permanently styling according to the present invention. Said roller shows at one end thereof a terminal 2 out of hard, synthetic material, shaped in the form of a sleeve, innerly hollow. At the other end of roller 1 a terminal 3 is applied, said terminal being also out of synthetic material, shaped in the form of a pin, of such a diameter as to be inserted, under a slight pressure, within terminal 2, shaped as a sleeve.
When the lock has been wound along straight body 1, the same may be bent until it forms a nearly circular ring, and it can be locked in that position inserting terminal 3 into terminal 2 in a tongue-andgroove joint.
Above specification and illustration of the roller is evidently referred to a preferred embodiment of the present invention. It is understood that any other shape, dimension and proportion may be adopted without therefore going out of the limits of the present invention.
