Abstract

202,986. Levy, A. S. Aug. 28, 1922, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Teeth, artificial.-A porcelain artificial tooth facing 2 is formed integrally with a root portion 1 adapted to be embedded in the alveolar process and and is interchangeably connected to a cusp portion 9 permanently secured to adjacent natural teeth or to a bridge. The combined facing and root is preferably connected to the cusp 9 by means of a pin 7 having a shank 8 embedded in the cusp and engaging an undercut groove 5 formed in an inclined surface 3 on the root portion and extending at 6 into the facing portion 2. In a modification the pin is secured to the root and the groove is formed in the cusp. The surface 3 is approximately parallel to the labial or buccal portion of the root 1 where it engages the upper part of the cavity in the alveolar process so that the facing may be slid into position as indicated by the dotted lines joining Figs. 1 and 2. The combined roots and facings are produced in standard shapes, the root portion 1 being highly glazed, and any necessary grinding is done at the occlusal end of the facing. Reference is made to a known process wherein a root portion is made by the dentist and baked to a porcelain facing, the whole being permanently secured to the cusp which is then secured to a bridge.
