Abstract

A caravan comprises a galley arrangement 4 which as an integral unit, includes a cooking stove 5 and a wash basin/drainer 6 supported in a box structure in side-by-side relationship, the box structure being part of the fixed structure of the caravan and having hinged flaps 7-9 for uncovering the stove and wash basin/drainer for use, and the basin having an open outlet 13 positioned over but not connected to the upper end 14 of a drainage pipe 15 of the caravan. The box structure has means for detachably securing the unit in its located position in the caravan whereby the complete unit can be readily removed for use elsewhere. The unit is provided with a carrying handle, folding legs, and a hand held shower unit. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Detachable galley This invention relates to Caravans.

Both trailer type and motor caravans normally incorporate a galley comprising a cooking stove and a wash basin/drainer.

In many cases, for example, for a picnic or for preparing a meal immediately outside the caravan, it would be advantageous to utilise the caravan galley, rather than provide a spare stove and wash basin. It is an object of the present invention to provide a galley arrangement for a caravan which enables such use.

According to this invention, a galley arrangement for a caravan comprises, as an integral unit, a cooking stove and a wash basin/drainer supported in a box structure in side by-side relationship, the box structure having hinged flaps for uncovering the stove and wash basin/drainer for use, the basin having an open outlet positioned over but not connected to the upper end of a drainage pipe of the caravan, the box structure having means for detachably securing the unit in its located position in the caravan whereby the complete unit can be readily removed for use elsewhere.

In order that the invention may be readily understood, one constructional example will now be described with reference to the accompanying sketch.

Referring to the sketch, the galley arrangement 1 is located on top of a fixed storage cupboard 2 within the living compartment of the caravan. It comprises essentially an elongated rectangular box structure 3 which houses an integral galley unit 4 comprising in side-by-side relationship a cooking stove 5 and a wash basin/drainer 6. The top of the box structure has a lift up flap 7 for uncovering the stove and basin/drainer (alternatively this can be two flaps, one for the stove and one for the basin/drainer). The front of the box structure 3 includes drop down flaps 8 and 9 for the stove and basin/drainer respectively which, when open, can be retained in a horizontal position, to act as work surfaces, by arcuate stop members 10.

The wash basin is fed by a suitable water supply device, which in this embodiment comprises a hand held shower unit 11 incorporating a thumb operated micro switch 1 2 which operates a water pump (not shown). The shower unit 11 is shown in its stowed condition, but dismounted on a flexible hose leading from the water pump. The basin has an open tubular outlet 13 which extends to and through the bottom of the structure and is positioned over but not connected to an enlarged open upper end 14 of a drainage pipe 15, the end 14 being supported adjacent the bottom surface of the box structure 3.

The integral galley unit 4 is mounted in the box structure 3 and a suitable detachable arrangement (not shown) is incorporated whereby the galley unit 4 can be released from its located position in the box structure 3 so that it can be removed therefrom for use elsewhere, e.g. immediately outside the vehicle.

To facilitate removal, a carrying handle 1 6 is attached to the front of the galley unit and also suitable folding legs 1 7 are provided at the bottom of the unit whereby said unit can be raised up for use outside. Because of the siting of the shower unit 11 in the surrounding box structure 3 this does not need to be disconnected when the unit 4 is removed. Also, no disconnection of the water drainage is required. However, it is necessary to provide a suitable connection for the cooker gas line. When used outside, the unit 4 can then be either reconnected to the vehicle gas cylinder or connected to a separate portable cylinder. When used outside the vehicle the unit 4 can conveniently be sited near a window by the shower unit 1 1, so that the latter can be used for water supply.

A galley arrangement for a caravan comprising as an integral unit, a cooking stove and a wash basin/drainer supported in a box structure in side-by-side relationship, the box structure having hinged flaps for uncovering the stove and wash basin/drainer for use, the basin having an open outlet positioned over but not connected to the upper end of a drainage pipe of the caravan, the box structure having means for detachably securing the unit in its located position in the caravan whereby the complete unit can be readily removed for use elsewhere.

2. A galley arrangement according to Claim 1, wherein the box structure is part of a fixed structure of the caravan, and the integral unit is slidably fitted therein.

3. A galley arrangement according to Claim 2, wherein the box structure includes one or two drop down flaps for uncovering the front of the cooker unit and/or wash basin.

4. A galley arrangement according to any preceding Claim, wherein the integral unit is provided with a carrying handle and folding legs.

5. A galley arrangement constructed, arranged and adapted for use substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawing.

Both trailer type and motor caravans normally incorporate a galley comprising a cooking stove and a wash basin/drainer. In many cases, for example, for a picnic or for preparing a meal immediately outside the caravan, it would be advantageous to utilise the caravan galley, rather than provide a spare stove and wash basin. It is an object of the present invention to provide a galley arrangement for a caravan which enables such use. A Caravan incorporating a galley arrangement which comprises as an integral unit, a cooking stove and a wash basin/drainer supported in a box structure in side-by-side relationship, the box structure being part of the fixed structure of the caravan and having hinged flaps for uncovering the stove and wash basin/drainer for use, the box structure having means for detachably securing the integral unit therein in its located position, in which location the basin of said integral unit has an open drainage outlet positioned over but not connected to a fixed drainage means of the caravan,whereby the integral unit can be readily removed for use elsewhere.

2. A Caravan according to Claim 1, wherein the integral unit is slidably fitted in the box structure and the drainage means comprises a pipe with an inlet in the form of a funnel.

3. A Caravan according to Claim 1 or 2, wherein the box structure includes one or two drop down flaps for uncovering the front of the cooking store and/or wash basin of the integral unit.

4. A Caravan according to any preceding Claim, wherein the integral unit is provided with a carrying handle and folding legs.
