Abstract
A door or window having bulletproof glazing 7, the pane being surrounded by a frame 6 which cooperates with a surrounding casing 1, the frame and casing having cavities accommodating bulletproof inserts 5, 11, wherein the chamber 2 of the casing is T or L-shaped in cross-section and the chamber 8 of the flame is Z-shaped in cross-section and are so arranged that in a closed condition of the door or window the inserts in one of the chambers overlap the inserts in the other chamber to render the surround of the pane proof against projectile entry. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Door of window with bulletproof glazing
The invention relates to a door- or windowframe which is equipped with a bulletproof glazing and which is bordered by a casing, in which respect the frames have, on the outside of the door or window, chambers which enclose bulletproof inserts and which partially overlap.
To protect glazed building openings it is known to use a bulletproof glazing and to provide, for example, door- and window-frame as well as casing on the outside with chambers in which bulletproof inserts are accommodated (German Gebrauchsmuster No. 78 03 666). Whilst the chambers are so designed and arranged that these overlap slightly, the bulletproof inserts do not have such an overlap, so that, at a certain angle to the plane of the bulletproof glass panes, projectiles can penetrate the chamber walls, without being prevented by the bulletproof inserts from penetrating into the interior of the building. In one known construction, in the case of a fixed glazing the chamber, equipped with the bulletproof inserts, of the casing engages over the edge region of the pane, so that the danger of sheeting through, which occurs in the case of split chambers, does not exist. In the case of door frames or movable window frames, however, a separate or divided chamber arrangement on the door- or windowframe and casing is in specific instances not dispensed with. Thus, for example, in the case of a chamber which is superimposed onto the casing and which is intended to mask the edge region of the glass pane as well, in the case of a door frame a stationary sill would result, which in many respects is not only very disadvantageous, but entails a considerable danger of stumbling, all the more so since, with adequate masking of the edge region of the disc, the chamber with the bulletproof inserts leads to an unusual sill height.
The problem underlying the invention is to design a door- or window-frame, equipped with a bulletproof glazing, in such a way that the door or the window, in the opened condition, frees a maximum cross-section of aperture and, in the closed condition, it is ensured that in the frame region the risk of sheeting through is just as reliably prohibited as can be achieved with a bullet-proof glazing.
The invention provides a door- or windowframe which is equipped with bulletproof glazing and bordered by a casing, the casing and a frame of the door or window each having a chamber enclosing bulletproof inserts, which chambers partially overlap wherein the chamber of the door- or window-frame is Z-shaped in cross-section and the chamber of the casing is T- or L-shaped in cross-section, the chambers being so arranged that the bulletproof inserts of one of the chambers overlap with those of the other of the chambers.
The frame construction in accordance with the invention turns to account the subdivision, particularly advantageous from case to case, of the bulletproof inserts into two chambers and obviates the danger that, projectiles can pass between the inserts which secure the door- or window-frame and the inserts which fulfil this function for the casing.
A particularly advantageous refinement of the frame construction in accordance with the invention provides for the fact that the flangeor limb-part of the chamber, which is T- or Lshaped in cross-section, of the casing overlaps the receding flange part of the chamber, which is Z-shaped in cross-section, of the door- or window-frame, and the bounding surface facing the web part of the chamber, which is T- or L-shaped in cross-section, of the casing is so bevelled that the central perpendicular line of the bevel extends through the rotary- or swivel-axis of the door- or windowframe.
The invention makes it possible, for example, to allow door- or window-frames to connect on both sides of a stationary frame part, masked on the outside with the chamber which is T-shaped in cross-section, when in a correspondingly close sequence a plurality of doors and/or windows are desired for a building. As a result of the bevelling of the relevant flange part of the chamber which is Z-shaped in cross-section, which flange part faces the web part of the chamber which is T- or Lshaped in cross-section, the chamber which is
T- or L-shaped in cross section can be used both for a fixed glazing and for doors and movable windows. Despite the comparatively thickly or strongly designed chamber crosssections, the bevelling on the chamber which is Z-shaped in cross-section ensures that opening and closing movements can be carried out unimpeded.
For production reasons it is advantageous to bevel the bounding surface, opposite the bevelled bounding surface, of the flange part of that chamber which is Z-shaped in crosssection similarly in such a way that the bevels extend parallel.
Finally, a refinement of the invention additionally provides for providing, in the walls of the chambers, outwardly-open grooves for the reception of sealing strips. These grooves, which are preferably provided in corners of the chambers, assist the sealing between the individual frames and make hermertic sealing possible.
The invention will be described further, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein the single figure is a cross-sectional view showing part of a preferred embodiment of door or window conforming to the invention.
A casing 1 is masked, on its outside, with a chamber 2 which is T-shaped in cross-section and which is composed of a web part 3 and flange part 4 and is filled up with bulletproof inserts 5.
A window frame 6, which is glazed with a bulletproof pane 7, is masked by a chamber 8 which is Z-shaped in cross-section and which is composed of two flange parts 9 and 10 and is filled up with bulletproof inserts 11.
The chambers 2 and 8 are so designed and arranged that the bulletproof inserts 5 from the flange part 4 of the chamber 2 overlap with the bulletproof inserts 11 from the flange part 9 of the chamber 8 in such a way that, at any angle of shot to the plane of the pane 7, a projectile is prevented by an adequate number of inserts 5 or 11 respectively from passing through.
An extrusion 12 which is U-shaped in crosssection prevents access to the inserts 5 in the chamber 2, whilst the chamber 8 is closed off by an appropriately-angled extrusion 13 and precludes access to the inserts 11.
The bounding surface, opposite the web part 3 of the chamber, of the flange part 9 of the chamber 8 is bevelled in such a way that, despite the cross-sectional dimensions of the chambers 2 and 8, opening and closing movements of the window can be carried out unimpeded.
To seal off the outer chamber walls with regard to one another in the overlap region, the chamber 2 has, in one corner of the flange region 4, a groove 14 in which a sealing strip 15 is clamped. A comparable groove 16 is provided in the flange part 10 of the chamber 8, wherein a sealing strip 17 is clamped which presses against the bulletproof pane 7.
