Abstract

202,887. Dros, C. P. Nov. 2, 1922. Nets. - A trawl net, which may have a cone-shaped mouth 18 of canvas or like material, has parts 2, 3, 4, 5 of its surface formed of flexible and smooth material such as canvas, rubbercovered canvas, or the like in order to reduce the power necessary for trawling. The rings of canvas decrease in diameter in a rearward direction and may be connected by ropes to relieve the strain. A trap 10, with a conical forward end 23 is fitted to the rear of the net and: has a basket or grating 26 to allow water to flow away even when the trap is filled with fish. Thetrap may be constructed on a wooden frame 27. The nets may be used with two otter boards 11, as in Fig. 3, with or without a third otter-board, or a flexible pressure surface attached to the head rope or the net may be towed by a rope 20, Fig. 5, attached to a number of ropes fastened around the circumference of the trawl mouth. An additional trawl line 17 may be used in either case.
