Abstract
The invention consists of a sheet metal strip serrated along the longitudinal edges to give a toothed formation. A number of holes are pierced along its length to enable it to be fixed in position. The strip is then bent longitudinally along each edge at an acute angle thus forming a close top channel section with a toothed edge. The strip is used by fixing it in the required position by means of the holes provided the carpet pieces to be joined (Fig. 2) are then inserted into the open top of the channel. Pressure is then applied to the joint thus formed causing the channel section to collapse and close thus gripping the carpet pieces securely together. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Concealed carpet jointing strip
The invention is a sheet metal fixture intended for use in the fitting of floor carpet.
The invention consists of a sheet metal strip (1 Fig. 1) serrated along the longitudinal edges to give a toothed formation (2 Fig. 3).
A number of holes (3 Fig. 3) are pierced along its length to enable it to be fixed in position. The strip is then bent longitudinally along each edge at an acute angle (4 Fig. 1) thus forming a close top channel section with a toothed edge.
The strip is used by fixing it in the required position by means of the holes provided with the carpet underlay butting up to the edges of the strip, the carpet pieces to be joined (5 Fig.
2) are then inserted into the open top of the channel so that the carpet backing (6 Fig. 2) is adjacent to the toothed edge. Pressure is then applied to the joint thus formed causing the channel section to collapse and close thus gripping the carpet pieces securely together.
The closed height of the channel section is such that it corresponds to the thickness of a normal carpet underlay (7 Fig. 2) and thus a level joint is produced.
1. I claim that the carpet jointing strip is completely concealed when fitted.
2. 1 claim that the carpet jointing strip grips the carpet pieces in such a way that the cut edges of the carpet material are protected from fraying.
