Abstract
202,634. Bentz, H. Aug. 15, 1922, [Convention date]. Cooling-chambers.-An apparatus for cooling sweetmeats, such as chocolates, comprises an endless conveyer, leading from the coating machine, carrying the articles through a cooling-chamber the upper part of which is cooled by air and the floor of which is cooled by a chilled liquid. The conveyer 31 leads through an aperture 33 and over drums 32, 20, the latter being held in sliding bearings 14 and rotated by worm gearing 19 from a shaft 18 driven from the coating machine. Chilled air is circulated through the chamber 3 by an exhaust fan, deflector plates 39, 41 being fitted in the inlet and outlet air pipes 38, 40 respectively. The conveyer passes over the floor of the chamber which is formed of a number of interconnected tanks 7 through which chilled liquid is circulated. The conveyer travels through the chamber in the opposite direction to the cooling fluids and passes over the top of the interconnected tanks, the articles being cooled by the action of the air and the liquid. The tanks are connected by pipes 8 arranged to prevent air being trapped and form a delivery platform 9 from which the articles are removed from the machine.
