Description
SPECIFICATION
Deflection fitting for a safety belt
The present invention relates to a deflection fitting for a safety belt, which by one end region is reeled up on an automtic winding device and the other end of which displays a fitting for connecting the belt with a lock.
In known safety belt arrangements, the belt in the deflecting region is guided over a fitting, which is pivotably fastened on the motor vehicle frame and which displays a stamped part shaped as a chain link with a straight edge bar, over which the belt is guided. Problems which may occur in this case are the frictional conditions between the belt material and the relatively narrow rounded edge bar. According to the surface property of the sliding surface, very high friction values may arise, whilst the belt material by reason of the small deflecting radius is exposed to very strong twisting forces.
According to the present invention there is provided a deflecting fitting for a safety belt, the fitting comprising a fitting plate provided with a slot for passage therethrough of the safety belt, an edge bar defining an edge portion of the slot, and a deflecting body which is provided with an arcuate contact surface to guide the safety belt and which is shape-lockingly mounted to the edge bar.
The deflecting body may comprise a partially cylindrical middle region of a length which corresponds to the width of the belt to be used with the fitting, and two limiting webs one at each end of the middle region, each web being rounded off to both sides of the middle region and projecting radially of the contact surface.
The fitting plate may comprise a planar fastening section provided with a fastening opening, the edge bar being connected by two connecting webs with the fastening section to extend at an angle thereto.
The delfecting body may display a substantially U-shaped groove, which traverses the middle region and the limiting webs, has a width corresponding to the thickness of the fitting plate and is shape-lockingly couplable with the edge bar and the connecting webs.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be more particularly described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 shows in front elevation, a deflection fitting embodying the invention,
Figure 2 is a sectional view of the deflection fitting taken along the section line ll-ll in Fig.
1, and
Figures 3 to 5 show in front view, side view and plan view, the -deflecting body of the deflection fitting according to Figs. 1 and 2 in more detail.
Referring now to the drawings, a deflecting fitting consists of a preferably metallic fitting plate 1, which is produceable as a sheet metal blank in a stamping process. The fitting plate 1 consists of a planar fastening section 3 displaying a fastening opening 2 and a likewise planar edge bar 4, which is connected with the planar fastening section 3 through connecting webs 5 bent twice, in zigzag shape, in such a manner that the edge bar 4 is disposed in a bent-away position relative to the planar fastening section 3 and inclined through about 15 relative to the fasteing section. The straight edge 6 of the edge bar 4, the inner corner edges of the connecting webs 5 and the arcuate boundary edge of the fastening section 3 bound a slot for the passage therethrough of a not illustrated textile safety belt. The setting angle of the bent-away edge bar 4 is so chosen that it lies substantially in the pulling direction of the safey belt.
The boundary edge 6 of the edge bar 4 is connected with the inner boundary edges of the connecting webs 5 through inclined connecting edges 8.
A deflecting body 9, which consists for example of an aluminium alloy or of synthetic material and which possesses a substantially wedge shaped profile with an arcuate contact surface 10, preferably semicircularly shaped, for the safety belt is shape-lockingly mountable onto the edge bar 4. This deflecting body 9, illustrated in detail in Figs. 3, 4 and 5, displays limiting webs 11 projecting beyond the contact surface 10 at each end of the middle contact region, while the transitions from the arcuate contact surface 10 to the limiting webs 11 are rounded off. The lateral boundaries of each of the limiting webs 11 are likewise rounded off, as may be seen from
Fig. 5.The deflecting body 9 possesses a groove 1 2 which is arranged in a plane which is inclined through 15 relative to a plane perpendicular to a base surface 1 3 of the deflecting body 9. This angle corresponds to the inclinaton of the planar edge bar 4 relative to the fitting plate 3. The groove 1 2 also possesses inclined edges 14 and the free limbs of the U-shaped groove 1 2 are bent at positions 14 in correspondence with the bending angle between edge bar 4 and the bent connecting web 5. The deflecting body 9 can without undue difficulty be mounted shapelockingly onto the edge bar 4 bent away relative to the fastening section 3 of the fitting plate, and a very good location is assured by the complete shape-locking of groove 1 2 and edge bar 4 or connecting webs 5. The deflecting body 9 assures that an optimally dimensioned contact and running surface is present for the safety belt.
Pluggable onto the deflection fitting is a coverhood 15, which is indicated in dashed lines and which is detentable at the boundary edge of the fastening section 3 and at the edge 1 6 of the edge bar 4 opposed to the contact surface 10.
