Abstract

A printed circuit board for assemblies in which oscillating high- frequency currents occur comprises a carrier plate (1) clad on one side with a copper film to form a large area low resistance element 2 at earth potential on in which sensitive high-frequency oscillating currents may flow. A second copper film is applied to the opposite side and etched to provide voltage supply paths 4 and high frequency lines 5 surrounded by areas 3 at earth potential. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A printed circuit card The invention relates to a printed circuit card for assemblies in communications eg for UHF tuners of television sets.
Printed circuits for tuners which have a printed circuit board clad on one side are known, in which high-frequency and operating currents flowing on the printed circuit board. The quality of the circuit arrangements is affected considerably by the arrangement of wiring connections and components on one side of the card due to electrical leakage fields. Moreover, the spatial dimensions of the components arranged on only one side of the printed circuit card limit to a certain extent the miniaturization of these circuit arrangements.
The present invention seeks to provide a printed circuit card in accordance with printed circuit board technology for assemblies of devices in communications, eg UHF tuners of television sets, which printed circuit card makes it possible to miniaturize these circuit arrangements while simultaneously restricting the electrical leakage fields occurring.
According to the invention, there is provided a printed circuit card for assemblies in communications, in which high frequency oscillating currents arise, where the printed circuit card comprises a carrier plate clad on both sides with a copper film to form a largearea low resistance earth potential on one side, of the plate in which the sensitive highfrequency oscillating currents flow and to form paths for voltage supply for the semiconductor components, insensitive high-frequency lines to components and semiconductors and earth paths on the other side of the plate.
By arranging the sensitive high-frequency lines in accordance with the invention in an embodiment of a UHF tuner, the oscillating currents may flow symmetrically and may be terminated on the shortest possible path on the said one side in the form of a chamber, whereby the leakage fields are restricted to a smaller spatial expanse. The arrangement of sensitive high-frequency lines moreover eliminates unfavourable effects on the circuit arrangement due to the dielectric losses of the carrier plate, whereby the circuit Q of the circuit arrangement is also increased. Finally, the arrangement of the components of both sides of the printed circuit card makes it possible to achieve further miniaturization of the dimensions of such a UHF tuner.
The invention will now be described in greater detail, by way of example, with reference to the drawings, in which: Figure 1 shows a plan view on to the upper side of a portion of a printed circuit card in accordance with the invention, and Figure 2 shows a plan view of the underside of a portion of the printed circuit card shown in Fig. 1.
A film of copper is applied to both sides of a carrier plate 1 comprising electrically insulating material, for example laminated paper or plastics having a glass fibre lining, which lining has a very high resistance. This carrier plate 1 is treated so that a printed circuit board with wiring connections arranged on both sides is formed by etching away certain small areas of the copper film as in the case of a printed circuit. A large-area 2 at earth potential and of low in resistance is arranged on the upper side of the carrier plate 1 and the sensitive high-frequency currents flow in this earth potential 2.
Wiring connections for the voltage supply 4 and the non-critical high-frequency lines 5 are surrounded by the area 3 at earth potential on the underside of the carrier plate 1 and serve to connect together the connection points of the components 6 which are shown.
The capacitors C5, C7 and C8 are inserted into apertures or recesses which are arranged in the carrier plate 1 and are soldered to the earth potential area 3 and the high frequency connections on the upper and underside of the circuit arrangement.
Apertures or recesses accommodating the oscillator circuit inductances L3 and L5 are arranged in the carrier plate 1. Owing to this arrangement of the oscillator circuit inductances, the electrical leakage fields pass substantially through air and are very slightly attenuated. A screen against disturbing extraneous fields is formed like a high-frequency chamber by the film on the upper and under sides and being closed about the recess.
In order to achieve greater clarity, the connection points of the components arranged on the under side, said connection points starting from the upper side, are shown by their circuit signs in the embodiment shown. The components are soldered by the dip-soldering method.
A printed circuit card for components as above described makes it possible to construct a tuner in a further miniaturized form with a high-value electrical properties which can be manufactured easily in progressive assembly line technology.

Claims (3)

1. A printed circuit card for assemblies in communications, in which high-frequency oscillating currents arise, wherein the printed circuit card comprises a carrier plate clad on both sides with a copper film to form a largearea low resistance earth potential on one side of the plate in which the sensitive high-frequency oscillating currents flow and to form paths for voltage supply for the semiconductor components, insensitive high-frequency lines to components and semiconductors and earth paths on the other side of the plate.
2. A printed circuit card according to claim 1, wherein the said printed circuit card has chamber like recesses or apertures in which oscillating circuit inductances are arranged whereby the electrical leakage fields pass substantially in air, experience a very slight attenuation and the cladding forms a screen against disruptive extraneous fields outside as a result of its presence surround the recess or apetures on both sides.
