Abstract

The operating range of a flow sensor, in which pressure drop across a spool 58 is linearly proportional to flow, is extended by providing a bleed passage 89 through the spool. The spool moves on a spindle 66 and is urged against a seat 57 by spring 68 which can be adjusted by rotating the spindle. The sharp edged rim of the spool moves in a frusto-conical throat 60. The bleed passage may be in the seat 57 or portion 80 of the spool. The size of the passage may be adjustable. The sensor is used in hydraulic actuator control circuits described in Specifications 1,335,042, 1,406,326. To measure flow in either direction two sensors are connected in parallel or two spools are mounted in a single housing. <IMAGE>
