Abstract

Gas-filled containers 1 of a plastics material for use as silencers in fluid systems by damping of pressure pulsations of the fluid are manufactured by a blow-moulding operation. A wide choice of the shape of the containers is possible as they are formed whilst the plastics material is in its non-cooled state and the resultant silencer devices are adaptable for location at any point in a system where space is available especially at the suction and/or pressure side of a fuel feed pump or at the inlet and/or outlet of a fuel filter. In a first blow moulding method two plastics films are extruded through a double flat nozzle, the films then being pressed together by laterally advanced mould parts while inflating the films to abut against the mould parts. With the second method a flexible plastics tube is extruded through an annular nozzle, the ends then being pinched off and welded to produce a cushion-shaped container. <IMAGE>
