Abstract

A curling member for curling hair has a former which is provided with an electrical resistance heating system which is formed directly on the wall of the former. The heating system is connected to a low voltage source comprising a pair of batteries housed in a casing which forms a handle for the curling member. The former can be detachably connected to the casing and a switch is provided on said casing to control the supply of voltage from the batteries to the heating system. The former may comprise a hollow cylinder of an insulating material with a layer of conductive material on its inner or outer wall, or may have longitudinally extending depressions filled with conductive material.
