Abstract

A fluid pressure piston and cylinder actuator has an external indicator device for marking the position of the piston within the actuator cylinder. In one illustrated embodiment the piston rod is connected externally of the cylinder to a graduated hexagonal bar 212 which slides telescopically within a tubular sleeve 27 on the outside of the actuator cylinder to give a direct reading of the position of the actuator piston within the cylinder. Alternatively a scale may be provided on the outside of the cylinder, a finger (12) clamped to the piston rod being movable thereacross. An indirect indication may be provided by linking the longitudinally extending finger to a spring loaded tape indicator. <IMAGE>
