Abstract

These dyes which are water soluble and devoid of carboxylic acid or sulphuric acid groups have the formula <IMAGE> in which D is an aromatic carbocyclic or aromatic heterocyclic radical and may be substituted by a group having a cationic group incorporated therein, R is hydrogen, halogen, nitro, cyano, hydroxy, amino or an organic radical and is preferably methyl, R<1> is hydrogen, an optionally substituted hydrocarbon or heterocyclic radical, or an optionally substituted amino, acylamino, acyloxy, alkoxy, or hydroxyl group and is preferably alkyl of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, R<2> is hydrogen or an optionally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl group and is preferably methyl or ethyl, A is an anion and the ring B may be substituted. The dyes give valuable bright, mainly yellow, shades of very high tinctorial strength and are especially useful for dyeing polyacrylonitrile material.
