Abstract
A transducer support-arm (for use in a multiple flexible-disk file) comprises a base portion 22 and a tip portion 26 which are interconnected by leaf springs 36 and 38. The relative lengths of the base portion 22 and the tip portion 26 and their respective shapes are chosen so as to maximise the resonant frequency of the arm. A loop-shaped guard portion 24 is secured to the base portion 22 and surrounds the tip portion 26; the edge of guard portion is tapered so that if the arm tries to access a closed pack of disks or if the pack of disks attempts to close while the transducer is in the file, damage to the pack is minimised. A leaf spring 62 mounted on the tip portion rubs against a ramp 60 on the base portion to damp relative movement. The transducer is attached to the tip of the arm by screws 85, 86. <IMAGE>
