Abstract
A vortex diode has a cylindrical vortex chamber 1 having an enlarged peripheral channel 2, one or more tangential ports (not shown) communicating with the channel 2 and two co-axially arranged axial ports 4 on opposite end walls of the chamber. The height of the chamber (h) is less than three quarters of the diameter (di) of the axial ports 4. Many other dimensional ratios are specified. The channel may communicate with the vortex chamber either radially or tangentially (Figure 3 not shown) with respect to the channel. <IMAGE>
