Abstract

A compressor of the sliding- vane eccentric-rotor type has a casing (16) defining a reservoir for compressed gas and a sump for lubricating oil. Narrow gaps (155 and 158) between e.g. the edges of longitudinal flanges (150, 149) on the casing and flanges (156, 159) on the stator (60), permit oil precipitated from the compressed gas to return to the sump but restrict interaction between the flow of compressed gas from a delivery port (81) and the free surface of the oil in the sump and thereby reduce re- entrainment of either settling oil droplets or oil foam on the said surface. The flanges (150, 149) may be formed integral with the casing (16), thereby enhancing its rigidity and resistance to bursting. <IMAGE>
