Abstract

A process for the production of a pyridine which is aromatically or heteroatomatically substituted in the 3-position comprises reacting an aliphatic oxo compound which contains an unsaturated carbon bond adjacent o the oxo group with an aliphatic-aromatic or aliphatic- heteroaromatic aldehyde and with ammonia in the gas phase in the presence of a dehydrating and dehydrogenating catalyst at a temperature in the range of from 250 to 550 DEG C.
