Abstract

A gas-liquid contact apparatus, e.g. an adsorber, gas washer or cooler, comprises a tower 1 having a vertical gas flow path defined therethrough, a plurality of horizontal rods 2 in the gas flow path, the rods being distributed along at least part of the length of and across the width of the gas flow path at a packing density of from 2 to 30%, the rods 2 having a major diameter of not more than 40 mm, and means 4 for causing liquid to flow through tower 1 over rods 2. The rods 2 may be arranged in spaced groups, the axes of the rods of alternate groups being mutually perpendicular. The rods may have different diameters in the upper and lower parts of the tower. <IMAGE>
