Corner joints and strengthening-pieces; joints between trunk bottoms and bodies. - The body and lid of a sheet - metal trunk are each formed from a main piece bent to form the bottom, front and back or the top, front, and back, to the turned-up or flanged edges of which main piece are attached the ends, which are secured by welding. Fig. 6 shows a trunk body part, bent up from a single sheet, or in the case of large trunks of two or more sheets of metal. The various elements are disposed at sharp angles to one another, there being no rounding at the bends. The ends, Fig. 5, are placed in position within the flanges U of the main part, and are secured to these flanges by electrical spot welding. The upper edges of all parts are curled as at S, T, to take a wire. Corner-pieces to complete the mouldings and any ornaments &c. required are welded in position after assembly of the main parts. The lid is formed in a similar manner to the body, and the two parts are connected by suitable hinges.
