Abstract
A disc brake in an epicylic gearbox comprises interleaved inner and outer disc packs 62, 72, 82, 92 operated by pistons 60, 70, 80, 90. The outer discs are retained against rotation relative to the housing 26, 66, 68, 86 by tie bolts 126 which pass through holes 134 in the outer discs. The pistons are retracted by springs acting between the end pairs of discs, i.e. those that engage the pistons. These springs are supported on rods which slide through openings 164 in tangs 150 of the end discs, and the disc pack is assembled to that the tangs of the intermediate discs clear the springs. <IMAGE>
