Abstract

A cutter holding device, for use with a grinding machine having adjustable centres 12 alignable on a nominal axis, comprises a structure having a rigid bridge 23 and a cutter holder 20 mounted in a bearing 21 in a housing 22, the bridge 23 having a free end 33 remote from the housing. The cutter holder, bearing and housing together form an assembly in which the holder can receive a cutter 13 so that the latter projects towards said free end 33 and is rotatable about the axis 25. The free end 33 and an end of said assembly remote from said free end are provided with means 40, 41 for engaging the adjustable centres 12 to locate said axis 25 coincident with the nominal axis. The device enables centreless cutters to be ground on a standard grinding machine. <IMAGE>
