Abstract

When making glass-fibre reinforced cement products, the extent of the final mixing stage in which the glass-fibre is added to the sand-cement-water mix is restricted so that whilst the glass-fibre is dispersed throughout, and wetted by, the said mix, the final slurry retains a moderately free-flowing characteristic. The glass fibre is added to the said mix in one operation rather than dribbled in as previously recommended by the glass-fibre manufacturers; and it may be important that the mixer is stopped so that the initial mixing-in of the glass fibre is even more gentle. The materials are fed to a horizontal mixer 12 which is then pressurised and the mixing is effected by a horizontally disposed rotary stirrer 15 which has blades in the form of plough shares 19. The resulting mixture is fed to moulds. <IMAGE>
