Abstract

A high capacity paper magazine (110) which can be used with an existing photocopier in place of the standard magazine comprises a paper supporting plate (158) biased upwardly by springs (138). The plate is mounted on a parallel motion mechanism formed by arms (144, 152) which carry meshing gears and upward motion of the plate (158) is damped by a flywheel (220) which is rotated as the plate rises. Normally, when the top sheet of paper is at the desired height, the upward movement of the plate (158) is prevented by a brake (236). However, as paper is removed, downward movement of paper feed rollers (320) releases the brake to allow the paper to be lifted by the springs (138). Both the brake and the flywheel incorporate clutches so that during loading the plate (158) can be depressed without opposition from the brake or flywheel. <IMAGE>
