Mops; mop-wringers. - In a combined mop and mop-wringer, a ratchet 16 is formed on the rod or sleeve 3 coacting with a ratchet button 19 looselv mounted in a sleeve 13, the ratchet being elongated to be engageable by the button during the twisting and consequent shortening of the, mop. The mophandle comprises a rod 1 screw-threaded at its lower end for engagement with a sleeve 3 which in turn engages with a socket 8 flared at its upper end. Mop strands 6 are bound by wire 7 to the socket 8 and bv wire 12 to a sleeve 13 slidable upon the sleeve 3. The ratchet button is formed with a square portion 19 and an enlarged head 20 having a shoulder 17 adapted to engage the shoulder 18 of the ratchets 16. To wring the mop, the sleeve 13 is drawn along the sleeve 3 to stretch the mop and is then held stationary with the button 15 pressed inwardly, while the mop-handle is turned in a certain direction relatively to the sleeve 13. On release of the handle the ratchets 16 co-operate with the button 15 to prevent untwisting of the mop strands. The strands may be untwisted by turning the handle slightly in the direction for twisting, without pressing inwardly the button 15, whereby the button is pressed out of engagement with the ratchets and allows the strands to unwind on release of the handle. The socket 8 is corrugated, as shown at 26, to prevent the mop fabric from slipping. The sleeve 3 may be in two parts secured to the handle by nails or indentations 27. In a modification, the ratchet portions 30 of the mop-handle 1 are not covered by the sleeve 3.
