Abstract

A stable uric acid solution usable as a standard in the determination of uric acid in body fluids comprises a buffer solution to maintain a pH of 6- 7 and a known concentration of uric acid present in the solution as a soluble salt of the major pH- controlling component of the buffer, the component having a pK value of 5-7.5. The solutions can be used as standards in enzymatic or non- enzymatic determinations. Buffers containing weakly basic amines, e.g. imidazole, pyridene or collidine, or organophosphorus compounds, e.g. dimethyl phosphorus, or conjugated oxygen compounds, e.g. pyrilium, may be used.
