Abstract

A security device for a locker or other compartment comprises a first locking system (2) mounted on a door (4) with a bolt (6) slidable in a channel (7) into and out of engagement with a recess (13) beneath a catch plate (12) of a second locking system (3) mounted on a door frame (5). The bolt (6) is retained to lock the security device by a padlock (16) through which the bolt extends. Removal of the padlock (16) permits withdrawal of the bolt to open the door (4). The catch plate (12) is withdrawable to clear the bolt by an independently key operated mechanism (14) to permit the door (4) to be opened when the locking system (2) is effectively in its locked condition. The bolt (6) is mounted by a sliding pivot (10) in channel (7) which permits the bolt to pivot outwardly from the face of the door (4) when the plate (12) is withdrawn so that the padlock (16) can be manoeuvred from the free end of the bolt intact and in a locked state. <IMAGE>
