Abstract

Dispersions of a synthetic thickening agent in a hydrophobic liquid containing a dispersant amount of poly(12-hydroxy stearic acid). Suitable synthetic thickening agents include carbon-carbon polymers bearing carboxylic acid groups and xanthanpolysaccharides. Dispersions may additionally contain an emulsifying agent to assist incorporation into water. Also provided are dispersions which additionally contain a natural thickening agent such as alginates. A further provision is a thickening agent composition comprising a mixture of a xanthanpolysaccharide and a natural thickening agent. All these materials are valuable for producing thickened aqueous systems especially textile print pastes.
