Abstract

An apparatus for exercising a person's legs comprises pedals 16 carried by a crank members 15 connected to a horizontal shaft 14 supported by a base 10, the shaft being drivingly connected through a gearbox and clutch 13 to a variable speed electric motor 12 whereby with the clutch engaged the motor is operable to turn the pedals at a selected speed and thereby positively move and exercise the user's legs, and with the clutch disengaged the user can exercise the legs by turning the pedals with a cycling action, the apparatus having a device to provide an adjustable resistance to turning of the pedals with the clutch disengaged. The apparatus may have adjustable links for connecting it to a wheelchair. An apparatus for exercising the arms has hand-grips instead of pedals. <IMAGE>
