Abstract

A method of sealing an asbestos surface to reduce asbestos dust evolution therefrom which comprises applying thereto an aqueous acid which can leach cations from the surface to form a coherent, water- insoluble layer thereon, and optionally applying a further layer of a poly(carboxylate) cement-forming mix; or which comprises covering the surface with a sheet material hardenable in the presence of water with the formation of a poly(carboxylate) cement, and applying water to the sheet material. The acid may be a homopolymer or co-polymer of an unsaturated carboxylic acid or a phosphoric acid.
