Abstract

Methods are disclosed for adjusting the value of a setpoint used for monitoring or limiting local power density in a nuclear reactor core having plural fuel element assemblies and uniformly distributed incore flux sensors. A local power signal derived from an incore flux sensor is compared to limiting power signals, commensurate with power operating conditions within a selected core volume. The signals are compared and a minimum margin is selected. The value of the setpoint is adjusted as a function of the minimum margin.
